Back in the 1840s, Pastor Kavel led the Lutherans on their journey to the Barossa Valley to embark on a new life of religious freedom. From that mass migration a dynasty began. This Kilikanoon Shiraz, exclusive to Dan Murphy's, pays homage to this great history with a red of supreme power and concentration. Robust flavours of raspberry and earthen spice completed by subtle, ripe tannins give the wine balanced complexity and a nice length of flavour. Kavel's Flock is a continuation of an immense Kilikanoon legacy that has recently seen it awarded the James Halliday Winery of the Year for 2013.

Deep red in colour, The Brunette opens up with aromas of aniseed and spicy oak. Expect a palate full of red berries backed up by aniseed and liquorice. The three great Barossa red varietals are Mataro, Shiraz and Grenache. Blended well they produce wine full of fruit, complexity, spice, drink-ability and age-ability. These varieties arent afraid of the sun and dry climates, so they thrive in the northern sub-regions of the Barossa. The grapes for this wine are a combination of youngish, mature and older vines, all grown by the Hoffmann family. The Hoffman and OCallaghan family's history of growing grapes and making wines has developed into a strong trust over the decades. Its this long-term commitment, respect for each other, the region, and its people I feel is instrumental to making the Barossa proudly stand out from other wine regions. Château Tanunda Chorus GSM has lifted aromas of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry area accompanied by spicy, dark berry fruits and white pepper on the palate. The finish is long with fine-grained tannins from two years' maturation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak barrels. Although drinking well now the wine will benefit from medium-term cellaring.

GSM is a red wine blended from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre. Originally from France, this one is an Aussie offering from Barossa. It's fresh and silky with flavours of fresh berries and cherry. Really nice with lamb.
