Heiwa Shuzo Tsuru-ume Natsumikan

The most specific idea of living in this modern world stands on the understanding of “Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability.” In this idea, the Tsuru-Ume series are hand-crafted in the concept of LOHAS style. That is why this series is not for mass production and easy consumption. You will know it when you try! Among the products produced in Wakayama prefecture is Heiwa Shuzo Tsuru-ume Natsumikan (Summer Orange). The Natsumikan or Japanese summer orange is somewhere between sour orange and mandarin, the flavour is bitter and sweet together and refreshingly pleasant not unlike seville orange marmalade. Cool it and enjoy it straight, on the rocks or with soda. Mandarin pulp may settle or float so you may want to give the bottle a little shake before opening. Store in a cool and dark place away from sunlight to avoid spoiling the taste. After opening, store in a refrigerator and drink as soon as possible.

Komasa Hojicha (Green Tea) Japanese Gin

Komasa Gin is the craft gin label proudly presented by Komasa Jyozo, a shochu distillery in Kagoshima, Japan with over 130 years of distilling history. Gin and shochu both share the fact that they are distilled spirits. Drawing on decades of distilling expertise and know-how accumulated through making shochu, the distillery unveiled a new line of gins in 2018. Komasa Jyozo uses their rice shochu as the base for Komasa Gin, to which they add juniper berries and as few other ingredients as possible in order to let the main botanicals shine on their own. Komasa Jyozo’s goal is to utilize and express the natural fragrances and flavours of their quality ingredients to the fullest. With Komasa Gin, they hope they have hit upon a revolutionary style of gin that is eminently easy to drink and perfect for everyone. A wonderful tea-infused gin from Komasa Jyozo, the Hojicha expression is infused with juniper berries, shochu, Japanese cypress and roasted tea leaves from Kagoshima, which is one of Japan’s most famous tea producing regions. Roasting the green tea means that the caffeine bitterness is eliminated, making for a more aromatic, mellow flavour. Pair the gin with soda or even hot water in the same way you would with tonic for an intriguing, fragrant tipple. Roasted leafy green tea alongside earthy juniper, leading into a touch of sweetness and a fragrant, woody finish.

Wakayama is also famous for strawberry production. The contents here are strawberry juice (60%) and the rest is Tsuru-ume plum sake. The fresh Japanese strawberry aroma and sweetness blending with tartness of plum sake is well balanced and leaves you wanting more! Recommended to be drank chilled, neat or over ice serving style: The Tsuru-ume Ichigo can be mixed with Oolong tea or black tea as well. Heiwa recommend pairing the Tsuru-ume Ichigo with chocolate. It can also be used as a sauce for vanilla ice cream or yogurt. Store in a cool and dark place away from sunlight to avoid spoiling the taste. After opening, store in a refrigerator and drink as soon as possible.

Production remained traditional and reserved for the Japanese market until 1984 with the construction of a new distillery specially dedicated to the distillation of whisky. The master blender selected whisky carefully, visiting various distilleries in Scotland. He blended and matured the whisky at Nagahama Distillery.

Kanoshizuku Distilled Gin

A uniquely crafted artisan gin from the Yomeishu distillery combines 11 botanicals dominated by Kuromoji or Lindera umbellata, an aromatic tree native to Japan. The gin combines two spirits, one distilled with the fresh fragrant Kuromoji and the other with the final ten botanicals, including the obligatory juniper. The final result is a complex gin that is elegant and fresh as a green forest with the scent of Kuromoji and characters of citrus, juniper and spice. Drink it on the rocks or as a base for a martini.
