Tahbilk Shiraz
Aromas of plums, spice and background peppery hints lead to a richly flavoured palate of blackberry, plum and anise fruits. Firm, supportive tannins will hold this release in good stead for further cellaring.
Sidewood Shiraz
Tucked away nicely in the Adelaide Hills, Sidewood Estate have made an art form out of crafting some of the very best single vineyard cool-climate wines available in Australia. Owen and Cassandra Inglis purchased the boutique property in 2004 and immediately set about making their vision become a reality. Their Sidewood Shiraz displays that vision to perfection. Attention to detail is the key here which enables flavours of red cherry, currants and dark plum to shine through along with hints of cinnamon and spice. The texture is beguiling and gives promise to a wine that will age for up to a decade.
Serafino Shiraz
McLaren Vale and Shiraz - the perfect match. Steve Maglieri is the icon behind the Serafino name and his Shiraz is a typically wonderful full-flavoured and full-bodied red with the black and red fruits you can handle. A rich and voluptuous palate with a silken, textured finish that is a perfect match to big, rich beef dishes or a robust lamb ragu.
Craiglee Shiraz
The Craiglee vineyard was established in the 1860's, and replanted in 1976 by the current winemaker, Patrick Carmody. All wines are made from estate grown fruit using natural processes that reflect the flavours specific to the site. This is an iconic Victorian wine that features a trademark of pronounced cracked black pepper.
Mitolo GAM Shiraz
Mitolo Wines is a family owned business, borne of and led by the founder and owner Frank Mitolo's vision; to create a range of wines of individuality, integrity and utmost quality. The G.A.M. is deep purple, the nose is an intense combination of smoked herbs, liquorice and blackcurrants leading to a full bodied palate with notes of cassis and cracked pepper. Premium McLaren Vale at its best.
Leconfield Merlot
Leconfield Merlot has big and juicy dark fruits, soft tannins all supported by lovely French oak. Paul Gordon continues to produce a serious Merlot for a great price, year in, year out. His Merlot is also one that will benefit from a little sit in the medium term cellar.
Water Wheel Shiraz
Water Wheel is a historic winery located in the traditional wine region of Bendigo in central Victoria. Winemaker Peter Cumming continually produces a Shiraz with aromas of ripe berries, white pepper and chocolate that are also reflected on the palate which also displays attractive regional and varietal character. The depth of fruit and oak balance is excellent. Always a consistent performer, Water Wheel Shiraz is not only enjoyable upon release but is a reliable medium-term cellaring option.
Grant Burge Nebu Cabernet Shiraz
Nebu is the latest addition to the Icon range of super-premium reds from Grant Burge Wines, sitting alongside the highly awarded Meshach Shiraz and Shadrach Cabernet Sauvignon. Plum, blackberries and chocolate aromas complement a palate filled with red berry fruit, warm spice and sweet vanilla flavours influenced by high quality French oak. Fine tannins give structure completing a mouth-filling textural wine that drinks brilliantly as a young wine but will continue to develop with careful cellaring for the next 10 years.
Black Maiden Byzantium (Feteascã Neagrã)
The Byzantine Empire era is known for its opulence, artistic complexity, perseverance, glory and sense of mystery. The “Byzantium” range embodies the extraordinary nuances of the flourishing Empire that will utterly conquer and ennoble you by authenticating the nod to wine appreciation of the historical saying that “Byzantium conquers all with its wine. Dealu Mare Region (or Big Hill) lies on the 45° parallel, sharing the same latitude with Bordeaux and Piemonte areas; it is the most compact wine region in Romania where the grapes enjoy the perfect combination of warm days and cool nights. The typical warm, dry microclimate and the rather long autumns favour a slow and thorough ripening of the grapes. There is a long vegetation time of 210-240 days with a maximum humidity of 55-80%. The soil here is chernozems and clay, strewn with marine fossils. The elegant Byzantium wines are originated in this exceptional region, having the Protected designation of origin Dealu Mare. “Byzantium Rosso” embodies the “opulence” of the Byzantine era with a robust and complex structure. Deep ruby red in colour, the wine reveals intense aromas of ripe forest fruits and black plums deriving from the indigenous variety of Feteascã Neagrã (Black Maiden), as well as red and black pepper deriving from the Shiraz. The aromas are well integrated with vanilla and chocolate notes and refined oak-wood. The finish is prolonged with crisp mint and violet notes structured by the Cabernet Franc. Food pairing: This well balanced red wine is the ideal companion to roast beef and chicken, stew and lamb. Its versatility delights your senses in any venison combination. Serving temperature, 16-18 ° Celsius.
