The fruit for crafting Reach for the Sky Shiraz was sourced from the 35 year old grapevines planted in the estates vineyards. The grapes were left on skins, gently pumped, and then fermented in stainless steel, prior to maturation in French oak barriques. This beautiful Shiraz from Kaesler Wines features a bright purple red colour with deep red hues. The fragrant nose exudes scintillating aromas of blackberries, enhanced by an earthy edge. A sip of the wine reveals fresh and intense flavours of dark fruits and blackberries, accompanied by subtle notes of chocolate, boysenberry and charcoal. These vibrant characters are supported by fine tannins, which end the drink in a soft and juicy finale. Suggested food pairings for this wonderful Shiraz include brisket, grilled London broil and smoked Cheddar.

This wine has an intense bright purple hue and an inkier royal red carpet colour closer to the centre of the glass. The aroma is an astonishing and lifted brace of blackberries, spice and even a perfume like touch of blueberries. Pure fruit and spice that is not in any way overwhelmed by winemaking artefact. The wine has a concentration of aromas that come from not over-ripe fruits. The smells change quickly in the glass and are fascinating to follow but the mouth beckons. There is quite a remarkable entry to the palate. A seamless soft but structured shiraz, lots of blackberries again for sure but also a mid-palate dark chocolate spice that whooshes through the mouth that you want to slow it down and check it out. There is some cream and spice from the French Oak and an almost chalk like tannin structure but it's all about the pure fruit.

Youthful, mid-weight palate, bright spiced red cherry and ripe raspberry fruits on attack to turn to a slately, dried spice and cherry pit close. Precise and focussed, fine sandy tannins and bright acids deliver drive and finish.

Pirathon Blue Barossa Valley Shiraz The fruit for the Pirathon Blue Shiraz is sourced from low-yielding vineyards of traditional family growers in the north-western Barossa districts of Greenock, Moppa, Belvidere, Koonunga and Ebenezer. Each vineyard is harvested separately when the fruit is readythis can take up to two months. After picking, each parcel of fruit is crushed separately into open-top fermenters. During fermentation, hand pump-overs gently extracted colour and flavour from the grapes. The juice is fermented on skins for a week or more and pumped over by hand. After pressing, new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads are filled and the wine is allowed to mature approximately two years. Juveniles is a unoaked blend produced from old vines. Fragrant intense and concentrated it has flavours of blackberry, earth and Asian spices. The length and texture make this great drinking now.

An exceptional Barossan Shiraz from the artisan cult producer, Spinifex. The Miette (mee-yet) Shiraz has a delightful balance and charm with flavours of cherry, blueberry and hints of earthy spice, held by finely structured tannins. Succulent, layered and fleshy, the Miette label is a great introduction to the hand-crafted wines from Spinifex.

Chris Ringland Shiraz 2005 represents an outstanding expression from the vineyard. The vine is powerful, voluptuous and ripe, yet the tannins are plush and mature, with moderate acidity. This vintage will have great longevity potential.
