An innovative approach to twice-barreled bourbon creates the rich and colorful flavor of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Uniquely matured in separate, charred oak barrels – the second barrel deeply toasted before a light charring – extracts additional amounts of soft, sweet oak character. Rich notes of dark fruit, caramel, sharp honey, chocolate, marzipan and toasted oak. When Bill Samuels, Jr., decided to create a new bourbon, he was looking for a companion to his father's signature Maker's Mark that would help leave his own mark on the family legacy. He made it a personal challenge to give bourbon lovers a bourbon that could be held on the tongue and featured much more of the natural vanilla and caramel notes he admired in the original. He and his team began working with the Independent Stave Company, experimenting with special barrels, different wood varieties and varying levels of char. After many tries, Bill found the answer in placing 10 seasoned, seared virgin French oak staves into a barrel of fully matured Maker’s Mark. These special staves were on file with the Independent Stave Company as “profile 46,” and so Maker’s Mark 46 was born, leaving its own mark as a first-of-its-kind bourbon.
