Rippling with rich flavour and piercing acidity; it really lands on point, with fresh pear, apple and lime fruits, lifting floral. Finishes clean and precise. Masterful.

This is truly one of Australia's great Rieslings, and not surprising with the myraid of brilliant examples coming out of the Great Southern region in Western Australia. The Howard Park example has pristine aromas of crisp green apple and citrus flowers and a delicate intensely flavoured palate it is a pleasure to drink now or with bottle age.

Conceived as a white wine development program, the Bin 51 Riesling soon became one of Penfolds' star performers. Eden Valley is an obvious choice of region for Riesling due to the higher altitude and cool climate. The wine offers delicate aromas of fresh cut apples and pears with a twist of lemon and minerality towards the end. A great deal of fruits and acidity makes for an interesting white wine with propensity to age gracefully if carefully cellared.

Clonakilla Riesling is an unsung hero of Tim Kirk's stable of beautiful wines. Herbal with white flowers aromas with citrus and stone fruit bouquet, it has a clean, ripe fruit and zesty finish.

The Jacob's Creek Riesling is blended from select parcels which results in a crisp, elegant wine with a fresh floral bouquet, attractive citrus flavours and a delicate, dry finish. This Riesling has always been outstanding value for money, yet in recent years, the wine has gone on to become a true star in both quality and price.

The St Andrews range from Taylors fly the flag for the iconic South Australian winery. The ultra premium wines are the true expression of the winemaking talents and terroir in which the fruit in grown. The Riesling has taken a little time to develop, but is now showing brilliant lime, citrus and tropical fruit balanced with cutting acidity.

Brown Brothers are well known for their quality sweet style wines and create the ever popular Crouchen Riesling that exhibits aromas of white peach, pear, even a little lychee. On the palate there is abundant sweet fruit with generous length provided by residual sugar and soft acidity.

Petaluma Riesling is one of Australia's finest examples of this noble variety. Pale straw in colour the palate exhibits lemon and grapefuit flavours matched by some fresh and racy acidity. Sourced from the home of great Australian Riesling, this trademark Clare Valley aromatic white is wonderful when opened upon release and like all great Rieslings, will develop brilliant toasty characters over a 10 year period in the bottle.

Penfolds began releasing the Bin 51 Riesling in the 1990s as part of the evolving white wine development program. The Eden Valley was chosen as the region for this Riesling due to the high altitude and cool climate that results in wines of intense aromatics and superb textural mouth feel. Flavours of apples, pears and bright citrus are commonplace. The Bin 51 has also shown a great propensity to age in the bottle extremely well.

De Bortoli's Sacred Hill Traminer Riesling is a soft, fruity, slightly sweet white style. The aromatic Traminer qualities combine well with the fresh citrus characters of the Riesling.
