Sailing from the glass are vibrant aromatics of raspberry, red cherry and red liquorice infused with fresh herbs followed by some delicate spicy earth notes. Rich succulent dark raspberry, ripe cherry and red liquorice fruits are delivered with excellent intensity across the mid weighted palate. The Lodge Hill vineyard is a masterstroke of the Jim Barry range of wines. Adding yet another layer of complexity to this producer's arsenal, Lodge Hill (at 480m) is one of the highest vineyards in the Clare, and sends down a bath of chocolate infused blackberries with liquorice spice. A gorgeous wine.

The wine has an aroma of rich blackcurrant, subtle star anise spice and a touch of eucalypt. French oak maturation is also evident with subtle aromas of cedar and chocolate. A wine of great intensity. It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. Subtle oak characters of cedar and spice are also evident. The tannins are fine and elegant a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.

Kaesler have crafted their 2018 Stonehorse Cabernet from Clare Valley fruit, and although it will soften in the cellar in the medium-term, it's already drinking well.Deep, dark red. Plum, dark cherry and blackcurrant with subtle cedary oak, mint and dried herb. Opens with layers of red berry fruit, with notes of crushed leaf and earth, fine yet deep tannins and the start of secondary development adding complexity.
