Kerner... this evocative, textural treat is the brain child of August Herold. First planted in 1929 as a cross-breed of Riesling and Trollinger... fast forward 76 years to when Barossa bros Graeme & Michael Fechner had that elusive lightbulb moment - to plant Kerner cuttings in their northern Eden Valley vineyard whilst on a research trip in Germany. Their pioneering efforts, sparked our intrigue... we first dabbled with Kerner incorporating it into our aromatic field blend DÜFTE PUNKT, co-fermenting it with Riesling and Gewürztraminer from the same vineyard. After years of experimenting, we decided it was time to truly hero this germanic wunderkind, and push Kerner into the limelight with the release of the first KONTRAPUNKT in 2016... now Australia’s (and the Southern Hemisphere's) only Kerner. “Every now and then you encounter a wine that blows your mind. The vineyards high altitude location and unique geology has resulted in distinct characteristics that develop further with ageing in this splendid Riesling. Aromas of rose petal and gentle spice matched with striking citrus and ripe grape flavours will delight you when you take a sniff and a sip of this wine. You can also note delicate hints of rose petals and cloves that will develop into classic toast and honey characteristics after cellaring. Match this wine with tuna, salmon, chicken and Asian dishes to have a satisfying meal.

Zesty and driven, the fresh citrus fruit is lifted by perfumed delicate florals and struck flint. A zip of acidity on the palate balances well the generosity of fruit, with a long and textured finish. Drink cold on a hot day for maximum refreshment or, if you have the patience, squirrel a few away to be rewarded over the next 5-10 years.

Introduced in 1999 (originally as Eden Valley Reserve Bin Riesling), Bin 51 (from 2006) captures the attributes of the Eden Valley, adjacent to the Barossa Valley. The region’s altitude and cool climate consistently produces Riesling of great finesse and elegance with a capacity for long term cellaring. Bin 51 is typically fragrant with intense lime and rose petal aromas and fine, cutting acidity. It develops complexity and richness with age without losing clarity, freshness or linear acid structure. Grape parcels are batch-vinified in steel tanks and bottled early under screw-caps to preserve pristine fruit characters, freshness and natural mineral quality.

Peter Lehmann, icon of the Barossa Valley, has been churning out award winning Rieslings like it's childs play recently. The Wigan Riesling with all its lifted aromatics of citrus and white flowers followed by a complex palate that lingers has again picked up award and award.

Langtons is proud to be first to market with the inaugural vintage of this Riesling, a selection from a very special part of the famous Contours vineyard. When it comes to Eden Valley Riesling, no name is greater than the Langtons Classified Contours Riesling from Pewsey Vale. The Contours vineyard was first planted in 1841, but the distinctive site we know today -- with vines planted along the contours of an Eden Valley hillside rather than in straight rows -- dates from the 1960s. From 1961 in fact, and this new wine comes from a single block of the oldest vines, planted in that year on a north-facing slope. The Contours Riesling is released with five years of bottle age. This new wine -- although almost equally ageworthy -- is a more approachable style and therefore suitable for release (like most other Rieslings) in the year following vintage. For many (or most) the 1961 Block Riesling will be indistinguishable from The Contours. The value here is obvious.

Bright pale straw. Distinctly aromatic floral bouquet that immediately attracts your attention. Underlying this is prominent spices and honeysuckle fragrance that is complimented by subtle oak nuances. There is a really lovely balance of early season stone fruits and soft acid which leaves a gentle and lingering long dry finish. The use of some oak maturation creates an overall mouthfeel of roundness and mild dryness which is so complimentary with food.
