Domaine Henri Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier A relatively new cuvée, 2013 the first vintage of this wine. Situated close to Chambertin, Clos de Beze and Mazis-Chambertin, this vineyard is planted to old vines and Henri Magnien makes a mere 1200 bottles made. Champerrier has unusually rocky soils for Gevrey-Chambertin and this is evident in the wine with its minerality and elegance in with all that usual tannic structure. Made from fruit grown in ultra close planted vineyards Bass Phillip wines are eerily like Pinots from Burgundy. Fully mature now, the wine has lovely spice and earthy characters ready to be enjoyed now.

Fine-boned and elegant, this Volnay shows the delicacy and lightness of touch for which the commune is renowned. Nicolas Rossignols low-interventionist winemaking philosophy ensures the full potential of the fruit and the commune is consistently expressed in the final wine.

With the oldest records dating back to 1220, it took until 1872 for Bouchard to finally acquire all of the parcels of this 3.36ha Beaune monopole. Depending on the vintage not all the fruit is totally destemmed and the wine is matured in French oak for 12 months with 30-40% new wood. Always well priced and approachable in its youth it will also reward 5-10 years cellaring.
