This pretty Tar & Roses The Rose Shiraz displays a black cherry colour. Intense aromas of shaved dark chocolate, mulberries, wild fennel and earthy notes flow from its lifted nose, with hints of blackberry vines and custard following close behind. Well structured tannins beautifully integrate with flavours of caramelized beetroot, mulberry jam and sweet balsamic vinegar on the juicy palate, to end this dazzling Shiraz in a fine and lingering finale. It tastes excellent with slow roasted lamb shanks in red wine reduction jus, served with winter vegetables and fresh crusty bread.

The Shiraz is all about balance, mouthfeel and intensity of flavour, a vintage that has wonderful appeal now but will evolve slowly but surely as Heathcote Estate has proven time and time again. The wine is exceptionally poised with characteristic layers of red and black fruits, floral notes, tar, gun flint and excellent balance and concentration. One of the first commercial wineries in the region, Heathcote Winery was established in 1978. The winery was purchased in 1997 by a group of independent wine enthusiasts where wines reflective of Heathcote region became the focus. As the name suggests, this winery is located in the Heathcote vineyard region of Victoria, and owns two vineyard sites within the GI. Newlans Lane Vineyard and Slaughter House Paddock make up 18 hectares of land under vine. Newlans Lane is planted to multiple varieties, Slaughter House to just Shiraz. The pioneers of Heathcote have created superb shiraz, reflecting minimal intervention, and the natural attributes of the area have been prominent in the wines. William Bulling was the first to stumble upon gold in the McIvor-Heathcote area. An area known for fulfilling the dreams of its fortune seekers, the Heathcote region with its rich Cambrian soils once abundant with gold are now home to some of the country's most loved wines.
