Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre) has a history going back to 1960 when Penfolds made a traditional "Burgundy" style. Penfolds have always loved Mataro (Mourvèdre) for its fantastic ability to blend marvelously with traditional South Australian stalwarts like Shiraz. Adding luscious complexity and palate grip, the Bin 2 is aged in older oak to emphasise the spicy savouriness of Mataro (Mourvèdre) that complements the plush richness of Shiraz.

Picked before sunrise to keep fresh, dark and juicy, basket pressed into French and USA oak barrels (15% new French). Dark berry aromas, juicy flavoursome palate, supported by oak, not dominated, and finishing long and smooth.

Lifted leafy Cabernet fruit characters on the nose with interesting notes of cassis and plums. The palate is very rich and firm but very well structured . Harmonious tight acidity is balanced with volume of fruit in the middle and firm dry astringency at the end . The wine has hallmarks of treatment with good French oak and maturation to produce a supple wine with good ageing potential. The finish is long and generous, leaving spicy dark chocolate flavours lingering on the palate.

In the glass: Dense red black. On the nose: Lifted plum pudding, currant and cedary oak. On the palate: Very rich and powerful with a velvety soft core of fruit, graphite-like tannins, touches of black olive and sarsaparilla and earthy persistence.

Spinifex Bete Noir Shiraz has a potent herb infused fruit on attack. Spiced red plum, cherry and sage flavours with a saline edge are carried on mid-weight frame of strong black tea-like tannin. Barossa Shiraz with even temper - displays fleshy, dark and generous fruit measured by ripe acids and drying tannin.

Yalumba Paradox Shiraz is an inky, crimson wine full of aromas of mixed spice and crushed black pepper, violets, fennel and hints of blueberries. The palate is like layers of velvet, with great structure showing lush red berries, olives and anise.
