Kalleske are leaders in organic and biodynamic vine growing and winemaking practices. Their old vine Barossa vineyards are able to produce fruit of the utmost concentration and power. The Eduard is sourced from three dry-grown vineyard blocks that were planted between 1905 and 1960 and which produce extremely low yields. Named after Karl Heinrich 'Eduard' Kalleske who worked the Kalleske vineyards from 1853 until the 1880s. Showing an intense, powerful and full-bodied nose and palate exhibiting dense classic Barossa old vine Shiraz characters. William Randell is Thorn Clarkes flagship Shiraz named in honour of William Richard Randell, a 19th century family ancestor and distinguished Australian pioneer. A full bodied rich and spicy style with ripe plum and cassis, sweet coconut oak and plentiful grainy tannins, it has the structure and concentration to reward long term cellaring. The Shiraz is sourced from estate owned vineyards in the Barossa Valley. Vinification takes place in small open top fermenters, manually pumped over and then transferred into 40% new American oak for up to 16 months.

The fruit for the 2016 Vat 9 Shiraz was sourced from Tyrrells super premium vineyards on the Ashmans property with an average vine age of 50 years. Predominately from the Weinkeller and Short Flat vineyards. Winemaking The blocks were all hand picked and sorted in the vineyard before arriving at the winery. All the fruit was then destemmed but not crushed, followed by fermentation in traditional open top concrete vats. After fermentation the wiens were matured in newer 2700L French oak casks for ten months.
