Cadao Tinto

Closed ruby in colour with violet streaks, red and black fruit aromas deepened by slight notes of vanilla and toast, highly elegant, smooth and persistent. A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz. Manually harvested, very selectively to ensure full ripeness criteria. Alcoholic fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel cubes, pelicular maceration followed by malolactic fermentation. Minimum two-year period of ageing before bottling. Cadao is a name you may not be familiar with as we haven't seen much of it over here in Australia. A relative newcomer in some regards, dripping in history in others. But whichever way you look at it, this is a winery worth getting to know. The Cadao Winery sits in the Douro S. João da Pesqueira at the heart of the first-ever demarcated region and UNESCO recognised world heritage. It is one of a few labels run by the company Mateus and Sequera Vinhos. This company is the little brother winery to the pioneering Vale Do Sao Marthino, Soc. Agrícola S.A, a winery that helped establish the Douro and legalise its winemaking appellations. As we know, Douro is best known for crafting some of the world's most highly acclaimed fortified wines. But with the trailblazing work of Vale do Sao Marthino, Portugal was able to establish the Douro DOC. A new appellation dedicated solely to the production of lush, vibrant reds that we now know and love. While the big brother company focuses on the traditional fortified, Cadao's sole focus is dry wines. Cadao is a young and entrepreneurial company. It represents the coming together of traditional winemaking and vineyard practices with modernity innovation and research, not to mention this magical, world-heritage listed place.
