Agramont Tinto

There's a lot of wine in Spain (seriously, a lot) and sifting through it all is sometimes harder than finding a needle in a hay stack. I came across this wine at the annual Barcelona Wine Week, amongst hundreds of producer stands. It's a certified banger from Navarra, a northern sub-region of the world famous Rioja. This sits in the ethereal category, brimming with bright raspberry and cherry components, with a graceful backbone of woody spices and licorice depth. If you like world class wines that don't break the bank, lucky you: here it is.

Lovers Not Toreadors Tempranillo

It definitely pays not to believe every cliché that you hear, although there is more than a bit of truth to some. This is especially the case with the truism that is 'Spanish lover'. Quite obvious is the love and devotion paid to the vineyards in Ribera del Deuro by José Moro, resulting in this truly exotic and flavoursome red wine. A 100% Tempranillo that was created with expertise and dedication, the result of which is an intense and full-bodied wine that contains flavours of chocolate and raspberry along with a hint of vanillin oak.

La Poda Tempranillo

Deep cherry red, young and vibrant with bluish tones that denote its youth. Red and black fruit in the nose with resinous notes and hints of spice. Fruity and rounded with great balance on the palate.

Nepenthe Elevation Tempranillo

This Tempranillo combines wild blueberry with subtle spice and savoury earthiness complemented by elegant complexity and a lingering finish.

Parker Favourite Son Shiraz Tempranillo

Favourite Son' acknowledges that when it comes to wine, like children; one can never choose a favourite. A clever and precocious addition to the Parker Coonawarra Estate family. 'Favourite Son' is what we all aspire to be - youthful and rich! Heralding from the pristine soils of the Limestone Coast, this Shiraz Tempranillo blend highlights the soft, yet structured styles of each variety. Fresh lively Shiraz brimming with blackberry, raspberry and plum is complemented by rustic and earthy Tempranillo. With aromas of dark blackcurrant, cedar, milk chocolate and violets, this wine is mouth-filling and rich with a fine tannin.

Olé! Tempranillo Vino Tinto

Spain continues to inspire Australia with wines of character, tradition and freshness. These characters plus a little bit of passion and beauty can be tasted in this ripping Vino Tinto from Bodegas Borsao. Made from Tempranillo sourced from vineyards in northern Spain that have been producing quality Tempranillo for generations, this flavoursome red shows delicious cherry and plum flavours and it ideally matched with red meats and hard cheeses.

Finca Carelio Tempranillo

Made from 30-60 year old bush vines of the Tempranillo variety, dry farmed in the traditional Castilian way, and producing very small bunches of grapes, on average less than 2.5 kg per vine. The vineyards are planted at an altitude of 700-800m above sea level, in a dry, very continental climate. Sunny conditions lead to intense fruit aromas and silky tannins, while cool nights help to keep a refreshing acidity, which sustains the wine during its ageing. This is a classic example of elegant, oak aged Spanish red wine, made from the famous Tempranillo variety. On display are ripe berry aromas, which are typical for the variety, and a beautiful, pleasingly complex bouquet, with hints of leather, spice and vanilla. Dry and full bodied, it shows remarkable freshness for its age and boasts a round, velvety texture, as well as great length with a slightly mineral finish. It's a wine that "grows in the glass", developing layers of complexity over time. A versatile food wine, great with meat pies, stews and grilled meat, but also simply with good ham, cheese, bread and olive oil. Ready to drink, but will keep well for three to five years.

Bio Project McLaren Vale Tempranillo Blend

Vibrant aromas of cherry (Tempranillo), cola and earth (Monastrell), heritage rose (Grenache), violet and spice (Touriga Nacional) harmonise. A compote of red and dark summer berries is restrained and shaped by the savoury minerality and textured fruit tannins of this layered and complex medium-bodied wine. The Bio Project represents Shinglebacks ongoing commitment to undertaking native revegetation within our vineyards. The plants were carefully selected to provide benefits to the vineyard by specifically attracting beneficial insects and native birds, improve water quality and restore some of McLaren Vales biodiversity. To further support biodiversity in our beautiful region, Shingleback will be donating a portion of The Bio Project profit to the McLaren Vale Biodiversity Project Association.
