Natural yeasts are used for El Burro and no sulphites are added. The wine displays a beautiful violet colour, with aromas of cherry and plum. The body is fullish and the flavours plummy, fresh and rich. The wine represents a beautiful and natural expression of the Malbec grape.

Bodega Catena Zapata Alta Malbec

Nicolas Catena planted his first Malbec vinyeard in Mendoza in 1902. His grandson, Nicolas Catena is known as the man who revolutionized Argentine wine and introduced high altitude Malbec to the world. The Historic Catena Zapata vineyards are planted with the Catena family's proprietary selection of malbec plants: the Catena cuttings, Catena Alta Malbec is sourced from Block 18 of the Angélica vineyard, Block 1 of the Nicasia vineyard, Block 6 of the Angélica Sur vineyard and Block 3 & 9 of the Adrianna vineyard.

Bodega Catena Zapata Nicolas Catena Zapata

The inaugural 1997 vintage of this Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend set a new standard of quality for wines from South America when it won a series of blind tastings against first growths and other prestigious cuvees from around the world. In 1898, Nicola Catena left his homeland of Italy, and sailed for the land of plenty and opportunity: Argentina. It wasn't long before Nicola planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in 1902. Although traditionally used as a blending grape in Bordeaux, Nicola believed in the potential of Malbec as a single varietal wine, and suspected that it might uncover its hidden splendour in the cooler climes of the Andes. Flash forward a few decades, to where Nicola's grandson, Nicolas Catena Zapata, has taken over the management of the business. He sold off the bulk producing parts of the company, focusing instead on producing premium Mlabec and Cabernet. To that end, he began searching for the best sites in Mendoza to plant. In 1992, he settled on Gualtallary Alto - the highest and moste Western part of Tupungato. Today, the wines of Bodega Catena Zapata are sourced from six historic estate vineyards: Angélica, La Pirámide, Nicasia, Domingo, Adrianna and Angélica Sur.

Controlled fermentation. 10 months of French and American oak. Domiciano produces wines with 100% Malbec grapes, harvested during the fresh nights in our farms in Barrancas to avoid oxidation and thus preserve the maximum aromatic expression. Once the grapes are taken into the cellar, they are allowed to macerate at cold, controlled temperatures for 5 days in stainless-steel tanks. Then they ferment with selected yeasts, maintaining the temperature between 25 to 28ºC for approximately 15 days. Later, the wine rested in a combination of French and American oak for 10 months. About the winery: The vineyards of Domiciano de Barrancas are located in the heart of Barrancas, south of the Mendoza River. The climate is dry and sunny, with great thermal amplitude between day and night; this allows a slow and progressive maturation, harmonising the sugar-acidity ratio. The tall trellises are irrigated with the purest water, the melting snow of the Andes.
