It's from Allegiance Wines, an estate founded by Tim Cox whose love of wine and allegiance to the grape has seen him create a range of outstanding (and critically acclaimed) wines from premium regions around the country. Generous nose of blackcurrant, green capsicum, Kaffir lime and Thai curry spices. The powerful flavours direct you straight to Coonawarra: blackcurrant and cassis, with hints of menthol and cedar. Grippy tannins. Will age for at least 10 years. Scored 95pts from Wine Orbit and 96pts at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (along with a Great Gold). This Cabernet Shiraz blend from Majella, icons of Coonawarra, is all about bright youthful fruit. Made with little oak influence, the upfront mulberry and blackcurrant characters are supported by fine lingering tannins.

Penola is one of the original producers in Coonawarra and they have a long and healthy track record with their Cabernet. This wine is elegant and well balanced with loads of dark fruits, a decent dollop of spicy oak and impressive length and character. It is medium bodied and finishes with nice some tannic grip. Bright plum in colour, Penfolds Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon displays delicate notes of mint and blackcurrant, with a more savory bouquet of semi-dried tomatoes and fruit chutney at the end. A hint of oak and spice adds extra warmth. On the palate a flavour-wheel of spearmint, milo powder, chocolate and black liquorice.

The Author pays homage to pioneering vigneron John Riddoch (1827 - 1901). A true visionary, Riddoch is regarded as one of the founding fathers of Australian wine. An influential figure, he established the Coonawarra fruit colony in 1890 and is synonymous with the region's story. The Author represents the finest expression of the vintage. Dark red in colour, with a crimson hue and classic aromatics of ripe cassis and blackberry fruit. Vibrant blueberry and black forest fruit flavours aew well integrated with hints cedar and spicy oak from maturation in new and seasoned French oak hogsheads.Elegantly structured, fine grained tannins lead to a long and persistent finish. This has all the hallmarks of a classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and will drink well now but will reward patient cellaring for 10 to 15 years.

The complex palate reveals itself with style. Traditionally assertive Coonawarra tannins are evident at first, before giving way to a mid palate filled with ripe cassis, olive tapenade and complex briary hints. Fine, dusty tannins give excellent line and length, and are layered with sweet and toasty characters reminiscent of crýme brýlýe. Our unique Double Barrel technique of finishing in aged Irish whiskey barrels has integrated the myriad of flavours and brought extra richness to the palate.

Streaming out of the glass are intense blackcurrant and mulberry aromas which are complimented by hints of red liquorice, cedary tobacco characters and bay leaf notes. Rich yet gorgeously refined the medium to full bodied palate is layered with ripe blackcurrant, red liquorice and mulberry fruits which meld into a back drop of cedary tobacco, subtle earth and bay leaf characters. Fine grained seamlessly integrated tannin structure. Understated in its power, it possesses wonderful finesse finishing long and elegant. Drink over the next 6-8 years. Alc. 14.5%
