The fruit for Saga R Bordeaux Blanc is sourced from east-facing limestone slopes in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, renowned for its crisp, lively dry white wines. The blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon is harvested in the cool of the night and fermented at low temperature in stainless steel to maintain freshness, acidity, and aromatics. Pale straw yellow in appearance with aromatics, floral notes of lilies and white flowers, and white peach, green pineapple and lychee. Round and balanced with excellent freshness and crispness on the finish. Brilliant on its own as an aperitif, or with fish, oysters, and white meats.

The wine is drinkable immediately, but will also reward those considering some mellowing and honeyed complexity that comes with cellaring.

Starting with the 2016 vintage, Hubert de Boüard-de-Laforêt, winegrower since 1956, co-owner of Château Angelus - Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A, Oenologist consultant in more than 80 properties around the world, is producing a range of varietals grown on his own plots and labelled under his own name. Château Mouton Rothschild is the work of one man, the legendary Baron Philippe, who is solely responsible for this giant of Bordeaux. Taking charge in 1923 until his death in 1988, he created something the world will always be in debt for. He also started the tradition of getting an artist to design a label for every vintage, a tradition that continues to this day. In 2009, the wine almost transcends perfection. A quite low alcohol percentage given the ripeness of the fruit, the bouquet is reminiscent of cigar box and graphite with violets and cassis playing a part. The palate is both restrained and concentrated, a impressive result indeed. The structure of the wine is hidden somewhat by the exuberant fruit, yet it is that structure that will see this extraordinary wine cellar for the good part of half a century!

Few places seem to posses the divinely ordained right to produce Bordeaux’s other iconic export, Sauternes, quite like Clos Haut-Peyaguey. Across 12 hectares of plateau-topping Premier Cru Classé vineyard, Semillon (and a smidge of Sauvignon) grapes patiently wait out summer for the noble rot to set in. We’re talking about botrytis, of course. Once it does, the sweetest grapes are handpicked for vinification before being sent for a French oak siesta.
