Château Latour is the epitome of power and bold concentration that is Pauillac. The old school of the UK wine market have long loved the wines of Chateau Talbot, and the 2010 would have them purring. Chateau Talbot is a producer that occupies a large (102 hectares) swathe of land under vine in Medoc and makes wines that are set to a more traditional style, including rich wood scents, firm tannins, some rustic charm and a cassis-meets-violet fruit profile. This is a superb release of the wine, reminscent of classic Talbots that are sinewy when young, but still approachable, and for enthusiasts, glorious with cellar time.

Château Lanessan continues to be a true bargain in the Bordeaux world. Lanessan produces wines that at first seem firm, but flesh out with marvellous fruit with good richness. Lanessan is also a very consistant producer, creating wines of quality from questionable vintages. The great thing is that you don't have to worry too much about 'questionable' vintage when looking at this superb 2009. The Bordeaux Gods have definitely been smiling on communes and produced wines of utmost concentration and power. Lanessan did not miss out with the licquorice, spice and blackcurrant rich wine that will reward the Bordeaux bargain hunter for the next decade or more.

A famous 5th growth Bordeaux from the classic appellation of Pauillac that has undergone many name changes over its life. Starting life as Mouton d'Armailhac before changing in 1956 to Mouton Baron Philippe which changed to Baronne to commemorate the Baron's second wife. In 1991, the Baron's daughter decided to give the Château an original name to separate it from the other Mouton's and Château d'Armailhac was born. Situated across the road from the famous Mouton, the estate is run separately, but with equal care. Wines of great concentration and intensity are produced, as one would expect from such pedigree. The 2009 is the perfect example of this with a wine of fantastic intensity and concentration. One of the finest d'Armailhac's is living memory, swathes of blueberry, roasted meats and espresso coffee characters are present early and will only further develop with careful ageing over the next 20 years.

Left in a sorry state by the previous owners, in 1962 the Rothschilds of Lafite took over the property and begun to reconstruct the vineyard which was planted mostly to Petit Verdot. 4 decades later and the wines of Château Duhart-Milon are now showing the flavour and concentration you expect from such a site in Pauillac.

Château d'Arche is an important part of Sauternes history with winemaking dating back to the 16th century. New treatments to the wines including maturing the wine for at least two years in casks, 40% of which are new help produce a wine of utmost concentration. The 2009 d'Arche is a seriously powerful wine with copious characters of marmalade, apricot and dense pineapple. Capturing the vintage perfectly, this is a Sauternes that requires a deeply flavoured cheese accompaniment.

Château Climens dessert whites are known for elegance, purity and freshness. The stellar 1986 vintage has lead to a remarkably rich and defined wine, one that showcases why Climens is regarded by many as the regions best wine after Yquem. Although it is slightly unfair to compare them due to their inherent differences in style and approach.

A truly serious Bordeaux from the Saint Estephe appellation in the Northern Medoc. Dominated by tannin and acid at the moment, it will fill out to reveal all it's velvety richness in years to come.

Château Haut-Brion was the one and only estate outside of the Médoc and Sauternes to be bestowed 1st Growth status in the original classification of 1855. That reputation and standing has withstood over 150 years and can be tasted in what can only be described as 'blockbuster' white wine. A blend of 62% Sauvignon Blanc and 38% Semillon, this wine should be held up as the flag-bearer for all Bordeaux Blancs. Mind blowing texture is the trademark of 2009 along with superb flavours and aromas of lemon scented cream, orange skin and a touch of lanolin. The ageing propensity of this wine is not be underestimated and will last in a good cellar for at least 30 years.
