Mitchell's Glengyle Ltd. are very proud to be continuing and adding to the great Campbelltown Distilling tradition and the choice of the name reflects that. Kilkerran is derived from the Gaelic 'Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain' which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kieran had his relgious cell and Campbeltown now stands. Kilkerran is thought to be suitable name for a new Campbeltown Malt since it was unusual for the old Campbeltown distillers to be called after a Glen, a custom more usually associated with the Speyside region. The seventh batch of Kilkerran's Heavily Peated was released in 2023. It has been matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. This Heavily Peated Batch 8 single malt opens up to a nose that is slightly mineral, with peat smoke apparent from the outset and a malty cereal note. The palate is full of orchard fruits, apple blossoms and poached pear notes emerge, and the peat smoke becomes more prominent on the palate in notes of campfire embers. A long, sweet finish concludes this heavily peated dram. Note - item does not come with external tube. In the distillery's words: “It is our intention to reduce the amount of packaging we use across our group of companies, from Springbank and Kilkerran to William Cadenhead Ltd, and that any we do use is produced and procured as sustainably as possible."

Nowhere is the dualism of their Octomore super heavily peated series more pertinent than in their .1 edition. Never as expected, delicate but powerful, this is unadulterated heavy smoke balanced with their vivacious and dynamic, fruity and floral distillate. While Octomore in itself does not conform to tradition, their Head Distiller Adam Hannett is inclined to mature Octomore .1 editions solely in ex-American whiskey casks for 5 vibrant years. Octomore 14.1 is the necessary control for the rest of the series, as experiments within an experiment, but their baseline should not be underestimated. Mainland grown Scottish barley is distilled in a patient and considered trickle. The base for this latest series showcases the delicate and intricate balance between smoke, malt, cask and maturation – resulting in an all-encompassing drinking experience. Matured for five years in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks, the 14.1 shows the power and potential of its essential raw ingredients. Sweet caramel and vanilla open on the nose, with bright citrus cutting through Octomore’s signature smoke - elevated with roasted coffee and subtle spice. The backbone of the 14th annual Octomore series, the character of the 14.1 offers a necessary comparison from which the other expressions alternate and evolve. Distilled in 2017 from Concerto barley from the 2016 Scottish harvest, this whisky was matured for 5 years in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks. Bottled at 59.6% and 128.9ppm. Light Amber in colour, the nose starts with smoked vanilla, sweet caramel, and toffee notes open on the nose, with sooty smoke balanced with delicate coconut and flaked almonds. There is an unmistakable earthy smokiness and a hint of citrus, with lemon meringue pie cutting through rich barbeque pork. There is bright citrus, smoke and a distinct minerality come through on the palate, followed by charred oak and beach bonfire embers. Toffee and creamy vanilla are balanced with the earthy smoke, with bright notes of pear, gooseberry fool and green apple simultaneously adding brightness and depth. Roasted coffee, hints of clove and nutmeg begin to come to the fore, with a gentle hint of heather honey. Butterscotch and vanilla are balanced with Octomore’s signature earthy peat smoke and a hint of salt spray, with burnt heather and gorse flowers settling on the finish.

Ichiro Akuto, the founder of Chichibu Distillery (est. 2004), is also the grandson of the founder of Hanyu distillery (shut down in 2000 and dismantled in 2004). Ichiro rescued around 400 casks before the closure. This "Double Distilleries" release is a vatting of two whiskies: Sherry matured Hanyu and Chichibu matured in a Japanese oak cask. A rare treat. The Shinobu 15 year old Mizunara Cask Whisky is hand crafted by master distiller, Mr Usami. First matured in ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks, it is then finished in Japanese Mizunara oak. Mizunara is an expensive oak which is hard to craft into barrels, but it imparts incredible flavours on the spirit of Shinobu. This pure malt has been maturing for no less than 15 years which has allowed the spirit to take on some very inspiring characteristics. The result is a unique fusion of flavours and dynamic explosion on the palate yet so smooth and easy to drink. Deep rich in colour and complex in flavour, mellow oak wood aromas lead to flavours of honey and molasses, hints of blueberry and deep tones of the Mizunara oak. The palate has subtle ripe fruit, lemon zest, leather and cinnamon with a hint of sweet malt and aromas of fruity oak barrels.

Established in 1826 by James Allardice the Glendronach distillery was one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland. The GlenDronach is borne of the landscape and natural ingredients that surround, from the soft Highland water drawn from the underwater springs in the Balnoon hills to the Scottish malted barley sourced from our trusted partners. This rich expression has been named ‘Parliament’ after the colony, or ‘parliament’, of rooks that have been nesting in the trees that overlook the Glendronach distillery for almost 200 years. In the glass, this single malt is a deep amber colour with a cherry wood sheen. A delicate mix of ripe autumnal fruits on the nose - notably blackberries and red plums. Rich Oloroso sherry and candied orange segments. Spiced oatmeal biscuits and toasted oak fragrances bring excellent weight and balance. Resolute flavours of fine Oloroso sherry and bitter chocolate sauce, which has been spread liberally over homemade plum pudding. This is all infused with fabulous spicy notes - cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. Full bodied with smooth tannins.

In 1898, John Duff built the Speyside Distillery, BenRiach. It is one of the few distilleries with its own on-site floor malting and draws its water from the Burnside Springs. This exquisite single malt has been crafted from a combination of unpeated and peated spirit and four cask matured for at least twenty one years in bourbon barrels, sherry casks, virgin oak casks and Bordeaux red wine casks. During long maturation, Benriach’s sweet Speyside smoke mellows and integrates with the fruit, malt and oak. After twenty one years, rich layering develops into an elegant honey smoke, enriched through multi-layered cask maturation. The whisky from each cask type, imbued with particular flavour characteristics, is then expertly married together to create a rich and elegant single malt, layered with lush orchard fruit and toasted pine wood with a honey smoke finish. All in perfect balance. This whisky has a honey gold colour. Aromas of berry fruit, orchard apple, wild honey and mountain oak spice.
