Begins with a frisson of fine French oak and smoky sandalwood before plunging into a full fruit basket; plums, mulberries, blackberries, and blackcurrants. The palate pulses with fruit filled verve. Rosehip, and cocoa notes. Leather, bay, and thyme.

The nose is opulent and complex. Dark cassis and berry compote combine with dried herb and festive spice. A generous portion of new French oak compliments the rich and full-bodied mix of dense red fruits. Complex and alluring tannins give structure and elegance with bright natural acidity providing a mouth-watering and moreish finish.

The Syrah patch was planted in the mid 1940’s and yields a microscopic 250-300 dozen per annum. The Sandown Syrah patch is west facing and features significant ironstone content. The site yields a signature incense like spice throughout the fruit and makes for a highly exotic expression of Blewitt Springs Syrah. Cola, sarsaparilla, incense, blackcurrant, blueberry, black olive, Italian leather, Sandalwood and roasted meat are all on display with recessed power woven throughout this highly perfumed and multi-layered, seamless example.

The palate is plush, opulent and velvety. HATCH is delicious now, however you will be reward with medium to long-term cellaring

The bouquet has aromas of black cherry, plum, cassis and raspberry complemented with mocha and vanilla. The palate continues with rich intense fruit flavours of blackberry, plums, coconut, spice and toasted oak delivering a well-balanced wine.

Lifted notes of blackberry, chocolate and spice, with secondary characters of blueberry, leather and soy provides a complex and intense introduction to the wine. The palate is full bodied, displaying classic spice and ripe berry notes, integrated oak and concentration for which Australian Shiraz is renowned. An elegant wine with perfectly ripened blackberry and plum fruit, liquorice and hints of dark chocolate. Maturation in high quality French and American oak has created a complex layered finish with fine tannins and notes of vanilla and spice. Sourced from vines planted in 1947 this wine was matured in a combination of French and American oak for 18 months. Expressive aromatics of liquorice, dark chocolate and blackberries emerge from the glass with underlying toasty vanillin oak and spice. Full bodied, rich and velvety in its mouthfeel the palate delivers a generous flavour profile of ripe blackberries, liquorice and dark chocolates over some smoky vanillin cedar, a touch of mocha and spice.
