The wine-growing region Nahe is situated along the River Nahe in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The region has around 4.000 ha of vineyards: white wine grapes dominate with 75% with the Riesling as the most common. A characteristic of the Nahe region os the soil diversity due to volcanic origins. Although the region was populated already in Roman times, the Nahe region was defined only in 1971 in the German wine law.
