Fortunately, there's not a bad review in sight! Tasting note: Bright burnished gold. Lovely honeycombe and fruit mince pie in the initial 10-20 seconds, toned down after brief air contact as light ginger bread and vanilla take centre stage. The cocoa and dried fruit accent in the third inspection rounds off a complex bouquet. Typical Balvenie mouthfeel - wonderfully soft delivery - only this ups the ante on the standard distillery releases with the Sherry cask adding extra depth. Spicy dried fruits and vanilla taper off with a gently bittersweet dark chocolate flourish. Delicious! 43% Alc./Vol.

It's matured in a combination of refill and toasted American oak casks, with a slightly higher proportion of toasted casks. Bold with plenty of backbone as this monster unfolds its fiery fangs on your palate. & not for the feint hearted. Take a generous mouthful . Hold it long in your mouth allow the thick tar peat smoke and creamy liquorice to penetrate every part of your tongue. A rugged fusion of sea spray, bonfire smoke, damp earth and spicy cinnamon immediately arouses the senses. Powerful aromas of peat moss and wet grass before notes of crushed pear apple and freshly baked bread provide the prefect finish

Tasting note: Matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels for seven years before being transferred to smaller 125 litre Quarter casks for a further two years. The process amplifies the impact of the wood. Fumey alcohol gives way to hints of dried coconut, raisin chocolate, pine needles and a vaguely cider-like fruitiness. It's a big, chewy malt with a fabulous fanning flavour rush and impressive control. Summer pudding and vanilla come through on the finish before the aftertaste ends crisp and pleasingly astringent.
