Unico Zelo Truffle Hound
Cascina Ca'Rossa Funsu Langhe Nebbiolo
So, what is Funsu? There’s a funny family story. Grandfather Alfonso of the Ferrio family was affectionately known as Funsu - and this wine is dedicated to his legacy. Made entirely from nebbiolo, and blended from two vineyards, the intention is to balance an elegant soft nebbiolo, with a vineyard offering more tannin structure. But, the trick is, this wine is made entirely in tank - so you can drink it young and pretty. The characters here are all about pleasure you want this weekend, not in the next century. Roses, violets and sour cherry pucker with subtle tea leaves and a slight earthiness. Bust out the truffles, the mushrooms, the hard cheese, the risotto... heck, even the rabbit ragu. The food will only get better with this delightful red.
David Hook Barbera
What the Hunter Valley and David Hook does so very well - meduim bodied reds that have good savoury length and nice integrated tannins.
Pikes Eastside Shiraz
The Pikes Eastside Shiraz is a rich ripe fruit Shiraz true to its Clare Valley origins. Dark berry flavours are integrated with the sweet oak character and long, satisfying textured finish.
Margan Shiraz
A wonderful example of Hunter Shiraz. Ripe berries and spice with a touch of leather on the nose and a beautifully integrated palate showing plenty of juicy fruit flavour in a subtle well balanced style.
Elderton Shiraz
Elderton is one of Australia's great Shiraz producers, year in and year out. Brimming with ripe juicy blood-plum and chocolate flavours, this is almost like Black Forest cake in a bottle!
Sticks Pinot Noir
Once again this producer provides us with a handy little number showing plenty of varietal and regional characteristics. Sticks Pinot Noir from Yarra Valley, features lovely red cherry flavours with playfull spices and charry oak influence. Lean with subtle tannins and medium finish.
Katnook Estate Merlot
When it comes to Australian Merlot, Katnook is among the very best. Lovely plum dark berry and cedary cigar box characters slip seamlessly into a finish that seems everlasting. Aged for 22 months in French oak, the swathes of blackcurrant are a delight to the senses.
Guigal Côtes du Rhône
Guigal Côtes du Rhône has always been the beacon for quality in the southern Rhône. This is one Grenache blend you must get your hands on. An attractive nose of cinnamon, liquorice and wild herbs, the palate is medium-bodied and balanced with a spicy savoury mid-palate and clean finish.
Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz
The Bishop has the fingerprints of Ben and his father Colin all over it. Ripe, rich, concentrated and supremely complex, the Bishop is the wine for all those full-bodied red fans out there. Ripe liqueur cherries on the nose compete for attention with vanilla, mocha and coffee aromas while the palate is full of sweet berry fruit flavour and a soft, luscious finish that seems to persist for an age. While exuberant and lively when young, the Bishop is known to handle medium term cellaring extremely well and reward any with the patience.
