When I first tried this shiraz, it was like love at first sight (or, sip). Juicy and fragrant, but powerfully integrated with a spicy, smoky oak profile. The 'JGS', named after Johann Gottlob Schrapel who arrived to the Barossa in 1844 by Ox cart and established Barossa's first settlement in Bethany. This wine is an ode to that history, and the first vineyards Johann planted in 1852. Today, the Schrapel family continue to own and operate Bethany Wines, with an impeccable eye for quality and storytelling. This shiraz outperforms most by a mile- a testament to the history of this family and their understanding of true Barossa character.

The palate’s full-bodied and silky, with ripe tannins and just enough acidity to keep it all fresh and flowing. It’s smooth, it’s approachable, and the flavour hangs around long enough to make sure you noticed how delicious it was. A seriously satisfying red that'll have you reaching for another glass dangerously quickly.

This premium wine is aged for over 18 months in fine French oak barrels, developing remarkable depth and elegance. Best enjoyed after 90 minutes of decanting, it opens with layered aromas of toasted oak, vanilla, and spice, followed by a burst of concentrated black fruit — blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum. Velvety tannins, a full-bodied structure, and a long, polished finish make this a wine of both power and finesse.
