Pretty and immediately expressive, multi layered aromas of raspberry, dried cherries, lifted spices and rhubarb.Medium bodied with layers of tannins and savoury earthy flavours balanced with a textured waves of spicy fruit. Complex, soft on the palate with a fineness and elegance counter balanced with generosity and depth of texture that speaks of it’s munda (land or country).

Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Vieilles Vignes

Domaine Saint-Damien is run by Joel and Amie Saurel whose family has been tending vineyards for four generations, dating back to 1821. Until relatively recently they sold all of their grapes to negociants. In 1998 they brought on consulting winemaker Philippe Cambie and haven’t looked back. Of the estates 42 acres of vineyards, 30 acres are in Gigondas with vines that have an average age of 50 years. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre matured in large old foudres for a period of 12 months. Deep black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Heady black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry aromas fill the nostrils with scorched earth, herb du Provence, subtle dried meat and pepper notes also chiming in. Rich, concentrated black cherry, black raspberry and liquorice fruits overlay, scorched earth, peppered dried meat characters and spicy dried herbs. Ripe muscular tannins provide robust structure. Excellent power with a long succulent spicy pepper infused aftertaste that carries a chewy feel. Drink over the next 6-8 years. Alc. 15%

Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils Lirac

Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils is located in the village of Châteauneuf du Pape, has built a solid reputation over the years as producing rich, ripe red wines, so it's interesting to see that Thierry Usseglio and his son, Gregory, are experimenting with the use of whole bunches and an entirely new wine style that combines a large proportion of white grapes and use of amphorae. Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils Lirac 2020 vintage is produced with 50% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah. The fruit selected is from 40 year old vines. They harvested manually and completely destemmed. The fermentation is followed by thermoregulation, lasting about 20 to 30 days. The wines are then aged in concrete and demi-muids vats over a period of 12 months. Loads of black raspberry and spice, medium to full body and a lush, ripe, yet seamless mouthfeel.

Luke Lambert Syrah

Its fair to say Luke Lambert hasn't looked back since 'relocating' his Syrah to the Tibooburra vineyard. This southwest sloping site lies in the southeastern corner of the Valley, near Gembrook, and might be the coolest microclimate of the Yarra. The site is expertly managed by Greg Kerr, the grower who planted the vineyard in 2001. The soils here are considered very unusual for the Yarra, comprising a seam of black volcanic topsoil over yellow clay with a smattering of granite rock throughout. Furthermore, the quality of the clonal material in Tibooburra supplies Lambert with deeper and darker Syrah fruit that also has more depth and structure. This is what drew him to the site and a good chunk of the reason the Syrah has become a touchstone example of cool-climate Yarra Shiraz.
