'Devil's Lair winery was considered a boutique winery until not that long ago. In recent years it has evolved to become one of the heavy weights of the Margaret River region. The winery's quirky name derives from an archaeological dig site on the property that unearthed an ancient Tasmanian Devil fossil. From the year that Devil's Lair's entry level wines earned accolades at Royal Society shows, I was expecting big things, and this wine doesn't disappoint. The wine's characters are intense, lean and focussed. Notes of strawberry jam, mulberry and blackcurrant. The Devil's Lair Cabernet Sauvignon is built for comfort, not speed. Inky dark red/purple in colour. The nose is redolent with rich plums, dark fruits and warm spices, layered and complex. The palate is plush and generous and exhibits amazing length with detailed tannin structure. This super fine structure frames mulberry and blackberry fruits that cascade across the palate with wonderful exuberance and persistence.

The oldest vines in Margaret River form the backbone of Vasse Felix. A modern, elegant, cool climate style crafted from our premier parcels of southern Margaret River Syrah (Shiraz). Wild fermented, with a portion of whole bunch fermentation and carbonic maceration, this aromatic, fine-boned Syrah is luscious, spicy and beautifully complex, representing the future of our favourite ‘alternative’ Margaret River red varietal. Lifted aniseed, white pepper, cacao, clove, and pine sawdust sit on bright fragrant raspberry, cranberry and Japanese sour plum. Beautifully silky entrance, with chalkiness on the finish leaving a dry and immensely fragrant perfume lingering. Raspberry and cranberry juice with a red peppercorn spice and a hint of red liquorice remain.

Crafted by Daniel Chaffey Hartwig and Theo Engela, this wine was fermented in a six tonne open fermenter with seven days skin contact and twice daily pump-overs. Matured in shaved, seasoned French oak hogsheads for 11 months. In the glass: Deep red.On the nose: Blackberry, plum, pepper and charcuterie lift.On the palate: Bold with a ripe mix of red and black fruit flavour, complex peppery spice, velvety texture and fine tannin drive.

This Shiraz is uniquely Margaret River, with an incredible combination of fruit, spice and lingering fine-grained tannins. For the 2019 harvest, only the best blocks of Shiraz were harvested to make this limited production wine.
