Kings Mantle Shiraz is the crowning selection of the vintage. Exploring the length and breadth of the Barossa region, Krodorf Head Winemaker, Nick Badrice, identifies the finest and most expressive fruit of the vintage. This parcel of wine hails from 25 year old vines in the northern Barossa in the Ebenezer Koonunga district. Black on Black Shiraz from the depth of the Western side of the Barossawith grapes from Bethany, our dry grown vineyardsfrom some very old vines giving an average age over 30 years old. The fruit was allowed to fully ripen to ensure a good balance of acidity and fruit characters. Grapes were mainly hand picked and processed in the cool of the night, gently crushed and destemmed in open tanks with yeast added within 24hrs. Ferment was regularly hand plunged and turned over every day for a minimum of 10 days before beingrun off and pressed to tank ensuring lots of skin contact.The wine was then put to rest and carefully monitored and topped as needed for 24 months in smal French and American Oak barrels then only the best barrels were blended just prior to bottling. Pure black design with environmentally friendly water-based paint could provide an ideal environment for the wine and protect it from light. As a result, a good aging potential could be expected.

The 2021 Don Shiraz benefited from the 2020/2021 growing season's respite from previous hot and dry conditions, with abundant winter rain leading to healthy vineyards and slightly above-average crop sets. Despite a dry summer, early canopy growth sustained the fruit, which developed flavor and ripeness early, allowing for harvest with lower sugar and higher natural acidity. The fruit arrived in perfect condition, and the resulting wines from this vintage are noted for their freshness, depth, and personality, marking 2021 as a standout year. Vinification included a natural soak followed by a week of natural fermentation, with careful extraction methods employed throughout. Post-fermentation, the wine was basket-pressed and underwent malolactic fermentation in oak. The 2021 Don Shiraz opens with a quiet assertiveness, revealing earthy and spicy notes indicative of a cooler harvest. As it unwinds, powerful aromas of red berries, leather, and dark chocolate emerge. The palate is refined and balanced, with assertive tannins, crisp acidity, and restrained opulence. The true depth and complexity of this vintage will unfold over time, promising a remarkable wine experience. Alc. 14.8%

This shiraz has a defined backbone and loads of floral aromatics that a connoisseur will recognize as distinctly Barossa. With harmonious oak notes and lacy tannins, this is a wine with a confident mouthfeel. A partner for meaty and layered dishes.

Medium depth crimson with purple hues. An intense aroma of ripe Satsuma plum, herbal and savoury notes combine with hints of cedar and sweet spices. Rich, sweet fruit is balanced wonderfully by briary and sweet spices and lovely, silky tannins. A full-bodied, textural wine, showing great complexity with hints of cedar and allspice flowing through to the lengthy, peppery, fruity finish.
