A new release from The Macallan and one we were thrilled to learn of. Matured in a combination of American and European Sherry oak almost 50:50, though slightly weighted towards American oak ex-Sherry casks. New oak is shipped from America across to Spain, where expert Coopers craft casks. These casks are then sherry seasoned before traveling to the Speyside distillery to mature for twelve years. These whiskies are then united with counterparts aged in sherry seasoned European oak casks. The result is, as you might expect nothing short of seamless. Translated to mean "Blue Arrow", made from fully mature blue agave in the lowlands of Jalisco, the Cristalino is produced by a Mexican owned distillery, operating since 1926. This triple-filtered Añejo Tequila has been aged for 18 months in ex-Bourbon barrels and carries all the warmth of a traditional Añejo but is still light and soft on the palate. It balances notes of vanilla and dark chocolate with a long, luxurious finish, while barrel aging has imparted flavours of coconut and subtle baking spice.

It is an assembly composed of rums aged between 3 and 10 years in red barrels of Bourbon. It is the gourmet and exotic notes of vanilla, coconut and chocolate that rub shoulders with those of dates and subtle tobacco, which seduced the experts Clément.

The palate is incredibly smooth and complex, vanilla notes and citrus fruits, lemon, lime and grapefruit are prominent. The finish has more of the citrus and agave notes with a light peppery twist and a sweet finish.
