They had a strong belief in the unique and expressive terroir of the Margaret River region, and it was this belief that carried them on their journey to create Stella Bella Wines. Back in 1996, Stuart and Janice took over the 'Suckfizzle' Vineyard, believing that its distinctive location would produce unique wines. They weren't wrong, and in 1998 the first vintage of Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon was released. The Stella Bella name was launched in the following yers, as their portfolio of wines grew. They added an estate range, an entry-level range under the label Skuttlebutt, and a premium range labelled, Serie Luminosa. In 2013, Stuart handed over the reins as Chief Winemaker to Luke Joliffe. Today, the Stella Bella team work with a variety of vineyards dotted throughout the Margaret River - Darch, Isca, Forest Grove, Karridale and, of course, Suckfizzle. Each site encapsulates a different aspect and terroir of the Margaret River, allowing Luke and his team to create harmonious blends across different vineyards, or to isolate single vineyard expressions and showcase the individual vineyard characteristics.

Grape variety - 99% Semillon, 1% Sauvignon Blanc. Colour - Pale straw-green. Aroma - Clean and ripe with lime, lychee, pineapple, candied lemon and snow pea. Grape variety - 100% Semillon. Oak maturation - 11 months, 11% new and 89% 2-year-old French oak barriques. Aroma - Intense and complex with herbaceous notes of nettle, snowpea, lemongrass, thyme and lantana. Subtle and well balanced cedar oak intertwines with complex characters of lanolin, wax, citrus and dusty earth. Palate - Rich, full and textured, the palate shows a fine structure from use of skin contact. Intense flavours of dusty snowpea, nettle, thyme and fennel are beautifully layered with fresh lime and subtle hints of smoky lanolin that go on forever. A wine with great depth and potential that will gain even more complexity with time. Food matches - Fresh seafood, French Camembert, Stiffed figs with goats cheese and prosciutto. Peak drinking - Drinking well upon release but has the potential to evolve and impress towards 2030. Viticulture - Fruit sourced to make this Semillon was grown with absolute attention to detail. Identification of soil boundaries within blocks is the first step in selecting potentially superior fruit. Close monitoring and analysis of these vines leads to shoot or bunch thinning by hand if required to obtain the perfect balance for good exposure and healthy ripening. A philosophy of minimal inputs in this premium block allows the unique combination of variety, soil type and microclimate to shine through and produce a parcel of fruit with true character. The 2020 vintage was a warm year in Margaret River allowing plenty of time during January and February to ripen the fruit to our specification. Winemaking - The fruit was harvested early in the morning with 25% being crushed into 1 tonne fermenters for natural fermentation on skins for two weeks. The remainder was drained and pressed with the cloudy juice being sent to new and old barrels for natural fermentation. All barrels were lees stirred over 11 months before clarifying and blending of the best barrels. Storage and Bottling - The 2020 Jack out the Box Semillon was bottled in February 2021 to super premium reverse claret glass with a screwcap closure. This wine is drinking exceptionally well now and with prudent storage should continue to show well towards 2030.

Light gold, with a fresh, green rim. Stonefruit, pear and citrus notes and seductive fresh toast, dried herbs and malty aromas from barrel fermentation. Palate Remarkable fruit sweetness, intensity and persistence, matched with lovely texture and savoury elements and balanced by fresh, natural acidity. A prolonged cool and wet growing season meant the vines were lush and healthy heading into ripening. This resulted in later harvest dates, accentuated by the cool and wet ripening months; conditions not experienced in Western Australia for more than 10 years. These conditions, coupled with the absence of heat events, produced highly aromatic whites with good natural acidity. The fruit was selectively handpicked at perfect ripeness, before being loaded into an airbag press and gently squeezed. The free-run juice was continuously tasted until an optimum point was reached. The juice underwent wild fermentation in new French oak puncheons, then remained in barrel for 7-10 months, with monthly lees stirring to provide texture and mouthfeel. Each batch was carefully assessed for inclusion in the final blend. This minimal handling has produced a unique, delicate Redbrook Chardonnay style that will develop great complexity over time.

Forester Estate Sauvignon Blanc has clean aromas with underlying richness and varietal fruit characters of lychee and passionfruit. There's a subtle hint of blackcurrant along with lime and well integrated cedar oak. There is a herbaceous thread through the wine of pea shell and nettle along with underlying wood smoke. On the palate, full and textured with a rich creamy texture. There is lychee, lemon thyme, nettle, roasted red capsicum and passionfruit along with balanced cedar oak and wood smoke.
