C&F Berthier Terre de Silex Giennois
The Berthier family have been winegrowers for five generations, with Clement and Florian taking over the reins in 2012 to continue the family tradition. Clement is responsible for winemaking and sales, while Florian is focused on the vineyards. Coteaux du Giennois, located northwest of Pouilly-Fume on the right bank of the Loire river, is the family's flagship appellation. This particular parcel selection is from soils made up primarily for quartz and flint (silex in French), giving the exotic, crunchy gooseberry characters with gunstone minerality. Expressive with a juicy thread of acidity and concentration on the palate, this is an incredible Sauvignon Blanc packed full of purity and energy.
Framingham F Series Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
The 2022 season was not without challenges with significant rain events leading into harvest. Careful fruit selection was required from two sections of organically grown vines around the winery (90%) and Andalane vineyard further down Conder Bend Road a mere 500m from the estate. Soils here are of the old riverbed type with fist sized stones composed of greywacke (a hard, dark type of sandstone streaked with quartz and feldspar), mixed alluvial gravels and silt. Consequently, vine canopies lack vigour, the fruiting zone is more exposed to the elements and yields are naturally lower. These factors produce an atypical style of Sauvignon Blanc.
