For over 20 years, John Quarisa has worked as a winemaker for some of the most recognisable wineries in Australia. During his time at Casella, he was instrumental in securing them the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2004. John has since branched out to create a range of wines that bear his family name. This particular range, named after his wife Josephine Quarisa, features this outstanding Coonawarra Cabernet, which over a couple of vintages has picked up several Golds. Dark, fragrant aromas of blood plum, blackcurrant and anise will draw you in to this contemporary expression of Coonawarra cabernet. It's a complex and thought-provoking wine, medium-bodied with layers of cassis, dark chocolate and toasty French oak. The savoury tannins provide a good line and length and there's a great persistence and depth of flavour, with the vibrancy of the fruit giving the wine real energy and lift. The Composer is a vivid dark magenta red colour with a crimson hue. Lush eucalyptus and red fruit aromas are paired with a bright, flavour filled, medium weighted palate of cassis and red berries. Subtle oak integration enhances the smooth and balanced finish.

Planted in 1974 by 76 year-old Sydney Hamilton the front twenty rows of Cabernet Sauvignon on his Coonawarra vineyard were his pride and joy. Having previously retired from a long and distinguished career in winemaking, Sydney still desired to create a classic Australian Cabernet Sauvignon and settled in Coonawarra with a clear vision and absolute determination. Now in the custody of winemakers Paul Gordon and Greg Foster, the front twenty rows are treated with the utmost respect, in honour of their founding father. Together with the vineyard team they carefully select only the best premium cabernet sauvignon grapes from these rows to create this classic Coonawarra Cabernet.
