John Riddoch MHA, who entered South Australia's Parliament (1865) as the South East's representative. Founded the Coonawarra Wine Region (1890) with the aspiration of making the finest wine in the country. The 2021 Riddoch The Representative Cabernet Merlot exhibits Cassis redcurrant spice aromas, fine chalky tannins and generous flavours. Aged in new-and-seasoned French and American oak for around 12 months, the wine is supple with gentle vigour. Drink now or may be cellared for years to come.

Tasting Note: Deep garnet with crimson edges. Aromatically, blueberry, lavender, aniseed, and a flicker of black pepper. The palate is vivid and finely structured: lush fruit threaded with tannin and tension.

Tony Bish is at the forefront of high quality chardonnay in New Zealand's Hawke's Bay. The Napa Valley Chardonnay comes from the coolest regions. In the cellar, techniques such as French oak barrel fermentation and lees stirring are employed, resulting in a Chardonnay that balances the complexity and richness of Napa Valley. 90% barrel fermented and 10% tank fermented, with 9 months of ageing in 40% new French oak barrels. This rich and radiant Chardonnay leaps from the glass with enticing aromas of nectarine, lemongrass, pear blossom and caramelised pineapple. The citrus and stone fruit layers are echoed on the silky palate where flavours of white peach, lemon zest and vanilla flow to a bright and zesty finish.

The 2008 release of this took out the prestigious tri-nations award. The 2009 from a stronger vintage looks even better. A classicist?s Merlot; plum and cassis supported by fine tannin.

Te Kahu is a wine of richness, with lovely black fruit flavours, hints of spice and long, fine graceful finish. From gravelly soil, it is made very much in the image of good Bordeaux.
