Another great success story of grape grower turned grower/winemaker. Troy Kalleske is the latest custodian of a family heritage that dates back to 1853 when the Kalleske family first planted vineyards in the Moppa sub-discrict of Greenock, in the north-west of the Barossa Valley. This Shiraz (with a touch of Viognier and Petit Verdot) is 100% biodynamic and has concentrated aromas of blueberry, cloves, violets and dried fig. The silken palate that follows has dark fruit and lifted notes of floral with a sublime length of flavour.

The actual date of the first Bin 0 Shiraz is lost in the annals of time. But what is certain is the descriptor Bin 0 on the wine label has been in use for over 100 years. Bests Bin 0 Shiraz is produced from the four original Shiraz plantings in the low yielding blocks of the historic Concongella vineyard at Great Western. This includes 19th Century and mid-20th Century plantings of Shiraz, which result in very low yielding vines that produce intense flavours. The fruit is hand selected, sorted and fermented in small batches and matured in the finest barrels in the underground cellar.

Medium bodied with primary red fruits of red plum skin and cherry whilst the mid-palate has a lovely layer of pepper spice. The wine finishes with fine toasty tannins coupled with linear acidity that allows the wine to finish fresh and in perfect balance. This vibrant wine is great to enjoy now with food but will soften and gain complexity over the next 5-12 years. Ideal to drink Greek style slow roasted lamb.

Colour A medium -deep intense red, with purple hues.Bouquet High tone blue primary fruits, with black pepper, clove, and cedar.Palate A delicious coupling of red and black primary fruits. Tones of red cherry, cranberry, blackberry, bramble. Complex creamy mid-palate of clove, cinnamon, and dried herb. Rich, chocolate tannins coat the mouth, and are well balanced with medium acidity.
