Dalwood Estate Shiraz is from the rich red soils of the Hunter Valley. Current vintage was warm and dry with low yielding and concentrated fruit. Deeply coloured with red fruits and spice followed by a seamless palate with well integrated oak.

Shiraz from the hunter Valley is a distinctive and unique wine which ages gracefully. Vibrant red fruit aromas flow through to a medium bodied palate which is long and seamless. The red plum and black cherry aromas lead to a fruit driven and softly textured palate with background vanillin and spice from oak barrel maturation.

It’s from Hungerford Hill’s always impressive Bryan Currie, and boasts: “Incredible depths of dark, delicious fruit flavours make this wine easy to love. The shiraz imparts a beautiful plushness to the blend while the cabernet provides structure. Bright and harmonious, with ripe, chewy, integrated tannins. Excellent balance and even flow. Good ageing potential. 96pts. (Toni Paterson, The Halliday Wine Companion).” Shanteh Wale, WinePilot adds that finds it “A well balanced wine in almost every vintage I have tried…93pts” and Huon Hook calls it “Very tidy red wine.93pts” in The Real Review.

Every so often there are parcels of wine that generate tremendous excitement amongst the winemakers at Schild Estate. They set this aside to make Prämie, the wine that defines the best of the vintage and the land on which it was grown. Intense primary fresh plum flavours show again on the palate, where they hold their presence all the way through to roll out soft and pillowy at the finish. A firmly present, but fine tannin framework provides just enough focus and lift for the fruit to ensure added complexity, but retaining vibrancy to the mouth flavours of this Shiraz.

Another great success story of grape grower turned grower/winemaker. Troy Kalleske is the latest custodian of a family heritage that dates back to 1853 when the Kalleske family first planted vineyards in the Moppa sub-discrict of Greenock, in the north-west of the Barossa Valley. This Shiraz (with a touch of Viognier and Petit Verdot) is 100% biodynamic and has concentrated aromas of blueberry, cloves, violets and dried fig. The silken palate that follows has dark fruit and lifted notes of floral with a sublime length of flavour.

Wynns is in the fortunate position to have holdings of some of Coonawarra's oldest Shiraz vines and coupled with recent plantings in the 1990s, Wynns now have fruit that is worthy of its own place amongst the Wynns elite. Enter Wynns Black Label Shiraz - with a dense, dark nose of pepper, mulberries and distinctive florals that are the perfect gateway to a palate that is rich and complex. Flavours of layered red berry, spice and chocolate with tight, focused tannins that will see the Black Label Shiraz become another Wynns favourite.

Sourced from vineyards surrounding Canberra, the Clonakilla O'Riada Shiraz has been lovingly embraced as little brother to the iconic Shiraz Viognier. Also co-fermented with a touch of Viognier, the O'Riada shows a more fruit forward presence, yet still with that unmistakable Tim Kirk elegance and purity that is a theme throughout all of his wines.

The Shiraz grapes for The Struie come from old vines in the Barossa and Eden Valleys. The Eden component brings floral spicy aromas that are supported by more brooding notes of tar and chocolate from the Barossa. The palate is luscious and silky, and this is a Fine Wine favourite.

Oakridge are well known for their white wine styles, especially their Chardonnay, but don't forget the Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that can do so well. Lovely lifted spice; bright and attractive cassis fruit and layers of fine grained tannin will greet the drinker and will be welcomed by any serious Cabernet lover.
