Created in 1962, Penfolds Bin 128 is a regional wine that reflects the unique climate and growing conditions of South Australia's Coonawarra district and the relatively elegant style of cool climate Shiraz. From the 1980 vintage, French oak replaced American, highlighting the pepper, spice and floral characteristics that define this style. Since the mid-1980s, a greater attention has been paid to fruit ripeness, resulting in a wine that is fuller in style and structure.

Coonawarra is regarded as Australia's premier region for Cabernet Sauvignon. The Reschke properties are located on the famous strip of 'terra rossa' soil in Coonawarra and has been owned by the family for almost 100 years. The fruit selected for Empyrean is the best on their 10.8 acre site and is only made in exceptional years.

Another string to their 'Single Vineyard' bow, Wynns reinvested in the Child's vineyard in 2009 - elevating the fruit there from its traditional supporting role in other premium releases (including John Riddoch and Black Label) to having a dedicated bottling of its own. John Riddoch's first vintage of Coonawarra Claret (1890) was a shiraz-dominant wine. As the region's first wine grower he envisaged that Coonawarra would become one of Australia's finest wine regions. The 2021 Riddoch The Winegrower Shiraz has frangrant blackberry anise aromas, supple tannins and complex graphite tones define the stylish Coonawarra Shiraz. Matured in new and seasoned French and American oak barrels. Drink now or will reward careful cellaring for up to 10 years.

Strong and full-bodied with notes of vibrant forest fruits and wild herbs. Fine tannins and subtle notes of oak deliver a wonderfully rich wine with flavour, structure and complexity.

This Shiraz is full bodied with a smooth rich texture. The notes of dark berries, bay leaf and dark chocolate are nicely balanced with spicy oak characters. The lengthy palate is concentrated and mouth filling.

Vibrant and intense dark cherry paired with generous juicy dark fruits. The palate is balanced with layers of vanilla and hints of mocha supported by fine-boned tannins and underlying oak complexity.

The Vocation Series pays tribute to John Riddoch’s multifaceted capabilities and the many vocations he had in his lifetime, reflected by the ultimate expression of Coonawarra’s varietal diversity. Linking single vineyard wines and interesting wine-making techniques with the personality evoked by Riddoch’s various professions. John Riddoch’s wool clip was the most highly prized wool in South Australia. He also established the Coonawarra wine region in 1890 with the aspiration of making the finest wine in the country. The Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon pays homage to this history as the flagship varietal for Coonawarra. Vibrant cassis, blackberry and violet notes, silky tannins and underlying cedar oak design this classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.
