Matteao Correggia Roero Nebbiolo

Roero has long been a source of Nebbiolo for Barolo producers, who prize the perfumed notes from the region’s sandy soils. Correggia’s Roero has always been a benchmark for this style, with silky tannins that make the wine approachable and enjoyable on release. The wine presents floral aromatics, ripe red fruit and brisk acidity without the iron-clad tannins of its more famous neighbors. • Finalist

Boroli Nebbiolo

Boroli Nebbiolo Langhe DOC is the estate’s gateway to Nebbiolo, sourced from younger vines and cooler-exposed parcels in the Langhe to give a bright and accessible expression of the grape. Hand-picked fruit from north and north-west facing clay-limestone soils with some sand is carefully sorted, given a brief cryomaceration, then fermented and macerated in stainless steel before a short élevage in oak. In the glass, recent releases are noted for vivid ruby colour, fresh cherry and wild berry, strawberry and floral notes with hints of spice and mint, supported by fine, agile tannins and lively acidity. It is a pure, unforced take on Nebbiolo designed for earlier drinking, offering the variety’s perfume and savoury line without the weight or waiting time of Barolo.

Escarpment Pinot Noir

Martinborough is considered by many as the home of Pinot Noir - not only in New Zealand but the 'New World' in general. It is hard to argue when wines like this are produced. Pinot Noir superstar, Larry McKenna, hand-crafts a wine that is overflowing with perfumed black, red and green fruit flavours that are all in harmony with the mid-weighted palate. Textured oak and fine-grained tannin give a nod to the fact that this wine will age gracefully for a decade or more. A stunning benchmark.

Tamar Ridge Pinot Noir

There is no doubting the quality of Northern Tassie Pinot. This is a fine example from the Tamar Valley has elegance, length and varietal flavours of plum and cherry balanced by a touch of oak and light astringency.

Tarrawarra Estate Nebbiolo

This is our second release of Nebbiolo from TarraWarra. It is ideally suited to the Yarra Valley and is thriving in its location, yielding a wine that has classic Nebbiolo perfume and structure. The wine has a bright garnet colour, aromas of roses, smoked meats and spice, while the palate has bright fruit driven home by characteristic Nebbiolo tannins. It will reward years of cellaring.

Maretti Barolo

A wonderful Barolo from Maretti showcasing great value for the region. The colour is dark garnet with ruby highlights. It has a clear-cut, intense nose with overtones of roses, spices, earthy undertones with nuanced vanilla notes. The taste is dry, but soft, full-bodied, velvety and well balanced, and is very long-lasting. Classic Barolo like this works well with rich braised meat dishes or a mushroom risotto.
