A new release from The Macallan and one we were thrilled to learn of. Matured in a combination of American and European Sherry oak almost 50:50, though slightly weighted towards American oak ex-Sherry casks. New oak is shipped from America across to Spain, where expert Coopers craft casks. These casks are then sherry seasoned before traveling to the Speyside distillery to mature for twelve years. These whiskies are then united with counterparts aged in sherry seasoned European oak casks. The result is, as you might expect nothing short of seamless. From the Hakushu distillery in the foothills of Mount Kaikomagatake comes their Distillers Reserve single malt whisky. A no-age statement expression that captures the smoky, herbaceous characteristics of their whiskies. Both lightly-peated and heavily peated malts were used for this complex and deeply enjoyable whisky. A hint of smoke and a lovely long finish.

Aromas are big and robust with a touch of treacle toffee and sweet spice. This whiskey is full boded, it's dominate by praline, honey and caramelised fruits and toasted nuts. The finish is deep and is jammed with berries and dark chocolate.
