Girolamo Russo Nerina Bianco
Girolamo Russo Nerina Bianco is a punchy majority Carricante blend (with additions of Inzolia, Coda di Volpe and Cataratto) that is at once dry, textured and rich. The fruit is harvested from various Russo vineyards on Etnas north side, particularly San Lorenzo, Feudo, and Calderara Sottana. Youll find lemon, peach, and stone on the nose, with refreshingly balanced acidity and clarity on the palate. In 2005, Giuseppe Russo was drawn back to his childhood home on Sicilys Mount Etna to make wine. Named after his late father, he creates elegant and expressive wines that speak of the volcanos incredibly varied terroir. The crus (or contrade) in which Russo grows his grapes are among the finest on Etnas north side, and he conducts all of his production organically.
Girolamo Russo 'a Rina
GIROLAMO RUSSO 'a Rina Nerello Mascalese, Etna Located in the north-eastern corner of Sicily, Girolamo Russo vineyards are planted high on the lava flow of Europe’s tallest and most active volcano, offering mineral-rich soils juxtaposed with a dry climate. The Nerello Mascalese consists of fruit from 3 ‘contradas’ or single vineyards. The volcanic influence evolves gradually in the glass, providing a savoury minerality that rounds out the sensational fruit and spice and long lingering finish. Giussepe Russo, winemaker since 2005, has a hands-off approach (organic yeasts, no fining/filtering etc.) with his organically tended fruit. This Nerello Mascalese is grown on sandy, lava based soils at 650–780m on the unthreatened northern slope of Europe's highest and most active volcano. Matured in second and third use French oak barriques for 14 months. Elegant, supple and complex. The essential Etna Rosso.
