Laphroaig

Laphroaig PX Single Malt Scotch Whisky

"Unquestionably one of the great malts of the year...in spite of itself". - Jim Murray Tasting note: Deep gold / brass. Muted at first; builds with a PX top note almost overwhelming the expected distillery aromas; if only momentarily. Brandy soaked raisins and dark chocolate amid flashes of sweet peat and pepper. Three to four minutes exposure draws out smouldering cedar, cigar box and hints of elastoplast, accenting fruit cake in later inspections. Terrific balance in the sweet, smokey-malt mid palate; vanilla and Christmas cake add richness to the finish. Concludes prolonged and lozenge-like with Laphroaig's trademark medicinal edge and pepperiness breaking through late, finally checked by the sherry. Big PX influence here but deftly handled - think of it as drunken Christmas pudding, Islay-style . 48% Alc./Vol. Normally travel retail exclusive. Extremely limited stocks.

Laphroaig 1815 Legacy Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Product Description: Laphroaig 1815 Cask Legacy Edition is a tribute to over two centuries of craftsmanship, blending the rich history of Laphroaig with the legacy of its master distillers. Crafted under the expert guidance of former Distillery Manager John Campbell, this exceptional whisky commemorates the techniques and traditions passed down through generations of distillers. Named after the year the distillery was founded, Laphroaig 1815 is a whisky that harmoniously blends smoky, sweet, and bitter notes, offering a true reflection of the distillery’s signature style. Matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and new European oak hogsheads, Laphroaig 1815 brings together the bold, characteristic peat smoke with a rich depth of flavours, including charred raisin, caramelised dark fruit, and oak. A remarkable expression that offers a refined yet powerful dram, perfect for those seeking something more complex than the classic 10 Year Old. This whisky is a worthy tribute to the generations that came before, showcasing Laphroaig's legacy in every drop. Maker: Remote and rugged is how you can describe Islay, on the western coast of Scotland, lies a distillery that has captured the hearts and palates of whisky enthusiasts around the world. Laphroaig, pronounced as "La-froyg," is a name that resonates with those who appreciate the distinct and powerful flavours that only a peated Islay whisky can deliver. Established in 1815 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston, Laphroaig's rich history is intertwined with the rugged beauty of its island home. The distillery stands proudly on the southern coast of Islay, overlooking the dramatic Atlantic Ocean, which plays a significant role in shaping the character of its whiskies. What sets Laphroaig apart from other whiskies is its unmistakably smoky and peaty profile. The distillery sources its malted barley from the nearby Port Ellen maltings, where it is dried over a peat fire, infusing the grain with the distinct flavours of the island. The resulting whisky is a true reflection of its terroir, with an intense and complex flavour profile that is often described as a balance between smoke, maritime brininess, and a hint of sweetness. Distillery: Laphroaig is blessed with its proximity to the Kilbride Stream, they've got a plentiful supply of peaty, mineral-rich water. The water is used as a coolant throughout the whisky-making process and in fact is one of Laphroaig’s main ingredients, lending soft, peaty, flavoursome notes to our whisky. As for the soil, well, their peat bogs are unlike anything found on mainland Scotland. Unlike other scotch producing sites, there are no forests on Islay, so the plants that fuel the peat are primarily heather, lichen, and moss. These give Laphroaig its herbal, qualities that are distinctive to the island, and the whisky. Also in the mix is old sea vegetation from when Islay was under water. The influence of this on the peat gives Laphroaig its maritime character and is one of the biggest points of difference from mainland peat. Tasting Notes: NOSE Peat Smoke, Burnt Apricot & Raisins The nose opens with signature peat smoke, mingled with burnt apricot and rich raisin aromas, creating an invitingly complex scent. PALATE Oak, Caramelized Dark Fruit & Dried Fruit On the palate, the whisky offers broad oak, rich caramelized dark fruit, and a lively dried fruitiness that adds depth and complexity. FINISH Nuts, Peat & Oiled Wood The finish is long-lasting, with lingering notes of nuts, peat, and oiled wood, leaving a memorable aftertaste of subtle richness.
