The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a true Macallan, complex but classic single malt. This whisky is a rich golden colour. The nose is complex with hints of vanilla. A smooth palate with a medium balance of oak, fruit, and spice. The finish is long, again with with oak, fruit, and spice.

The Macallan distillery, located in the Scottish Highlands, has a rich history dating back to 1824. Farmers in the area had been making whisky on their Speyside farms for centuries, using their surplus barley during the quieter winter months. The distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. The original name of the area was “Maghellan”, taken from the Gaelic word “magh”, meaning fertile ground and “Ellan”, from the Monk St.Fillan - who held a close association with the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Today, the Macallan distillery is renowned for its commitment to craftsmanship and quality. The traditional stone buildings, adorned with copper pot stills and wooden fermentation vessels, exude an air of timeless elegance. Each step in the whiskey-making process is meticulously executed, from the selection of the finest barley to the patient maturation in handcrafted Spanish oak casks. This single malt whisky reveals the remarkable art and science of the Whisky Maker in selecting unique oak casks that exhibit a distinctive and complex flavour profile. They were curated for maturation by The Macallan Master of Wood and delivered to the exacting specifications of The Macallan Whisky Mastery Team to create Rare Cask. This luxurious expression highlights the magic and science in The Macallan’s intricate whisky making process, as the whisky maker identifies the exceptional oak casks which impart the intense and highly complex flavour profile. Soft aromas of vanilla with rich raisin lead the journey of discovery into this single malt whisky, followed by a sweet fusion of fresh apple, lemon and orange. Intense sweet raisin flavours dominate the palate, before giving way to vanilla and dark chocolate, with layers of light citrus zest. The Macallan brings new oak from America across thousands of miles to Spain, where casks are crafted and sherry seasoned before travelling to our distillery in Speyside. Here they are filled with the new make spirit and left to mature for twelve years. These whiskies are then harmoniously united with those aged in exceptional sherry seasoned European oak casks. Colour of Harvest Sun, the Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old shows off an aroma of creamy butterscotch with a hint of toffee apple, candied orange, vanilla custard and newly felled oak.
