Château Figeac is a wine estate that had a very long history. It was once part of the Cheval Blanc estate, whichs soils was well known to be two-thirds of gravel, allowing Cab Sauv, Cab Franc and Merlot to grow flourishingly in the area. The 2010 Figeac, had a beautiful complexity to enjoy now or the longevity to cellar for those who prefers. Wine will benefit from decanting.
The history of Château Pichon-Longueville Baron is a tale of two estates. The Château and vineyard known as Pichon Baron was given in dowry to the founder’s daughter when she married Jacques du Pichon Longueville. After the death of their descendent, the Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville, in 1850 the estate was again divided - on his deathbed, he gave what became Château Pichon Baron to the men of his family, and what became Château Pichon-Lalande to the women - resulting in, some say, more masculine and sensuous styles of wine respectively!
"Château Troplong-Mondot, an esteemed Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) estate, resides in the revered Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, marking its prestigious standing in the world of winemaking. This historic estate, with roots stretching back to the 18th century, is a beacon of tradition and excellence. Nestled within the limestone and clay-rich soils of Saint-Émilion, the vineyards thrive, primarily cultivating merlot, complemented by cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. The approach at Château Troplong-Mondot seamlessly melds age-old winemaking traditions with modern advancements. The vineyards are meticulously tended, ensuring optimal grape quality. Vinification is a precise orchestration, resulting in wines that exude complexity, elegance, and a sense of place. The wines boast an opulent texture, presenting a symphony of flavours ranging from ripe dark berries to subtle floral and spicy notes."
Chateau Leoville-Poyferre''s reputation as a 2nd growth of note has been buoyed by the engagement of renowned consultant winemaker Michel Rolland, whose work has been an influence at the estate since the mid 1990s. Prior, the reputation had struggled until the 1970s and the arrival of Didier Cuvelier, whose labour has helped create a greater reputation, more befitting the Leoville name. The wine has increasingly become one of the finest modern examples of St-Julien, with a move towards later harvests, fuller body, deeper concentration and exceptional length of flavour. 2010 reinforces that Chateau Leoville-Poyferre is a St-Julien wine to relish and cellar for up to and beyond another 30-plus years.
