MICHELE CHIARLO BAROLO CANNUBI RESERVA

Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 by the sole and present owners, Michele and Giuseppina Chiarlo. Son of over seven generations of esteemed wine growers, Michele is today one of the most respected producers of the fine wines of Piedmont and a leading figure in its viticultural industry. Cannubi is one of the most prominent vineyards in Barolo and has been recognised as a cru since 1752. The front label depicts the "ciabot", i.e. where the ancient Cannubi shed can be found in the middle of the steep, terraced vineyard. According to winemaker Stefano Chiarlo, 2016 was a vintage of rare qualitative excellence, where the absence of irregular weather events led to healthy, perfectly ripe grapes at harvest. The wine was aged for 3 years i medium-sized oak casks, then further aged in bottle prior to release. The result is an extraordinarily complex and elegant Barolo, with hints of red berries, rose petals, liquorice and rhubarb, with the notes of sweet spices and tobacco so typical of this cru. Structured and complex on the palate, finishing with silky tannins.

Cirillo Barossa Single Vineyard Mataro

The Cirillo Mataro is an ode to Barossa history and old clones of the region. Cuttings were taken from nine individual rouge Mataro vines amongst our 1850 Grenache vineyard. Marco Cirillo propagated these nine vines in a nursery at the winery. Then he replanted these in 2005, as bush vineyard (no trellising) on the Cirillo property. As it is a small block, it only equates to around 60 dozen made each year. This wine is generous and silky with beautiful depth. It shows structured flavour with fine tannins. Made naturally in open fermenters, gently basket pressed, then left to mature in seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months. This allows the Mataro to show its true terroir. A wine that can be forgotten in the cellar for the next 10 to 20 years.
