This peaty Single Malt dates back to 1816, when John Johnston and Archibald Campbell each constructed a distillery on what today is the Lagavulin site. After Johnston died, Campbell consolidated the two, before selling it to malt merchant Alexander Graham. Today it continues to uphold the traditions of its past, using meticulous preparation to create powerful whisky. Their signature 16 year old malt has a strong peat, smoke and seaweed nose that is followed by a nutty complexity and light fruitiness. In the mouth characters of Charcoal, dry woodiness and iodine followed by chilli chocolate and a hint of toffee.

By using new French oak casks to finish this scotch, a fantastic vanilla and spice character is leeched into the whisky. This compliments the sweet malt and floral characters perfectly.

Following on from the duo of Rich Cacao and Fine Cacao comes the second instalment in Macallan's limited annual series. 'Intense Arabica' and 'Smooth Arabica' are said to be influenced by the Ethiopian Arabica coffee bean. Both special malts exude flavours of sweet oak, tiramisu and dark chocolate and reportedly provide a delightful whisky and coffee pairing experience. The story goes that Chief Whisky Maker, Steven Bremner wanted to create an expression that would pair perfectly with an espresso, so he worked with a group of caffeinated experts including Ethiopian grower Kenean Asefa Dukamo, Scottish roaster Lisa Lawson and acclaimed American barista Andrea Allen. “Exploring the world of coffee with our masters in the industry, who shared their knowledge, creativity, and love for their art, was both an education and an inspiration,” says Bremner. “There are many parallels between the approach to creating incomparable whisky and coffee. Each requires unique skills and craftsmanship to achieve depth and complexity of taste and both worlds aim to deliver an extraordinary consumption experience.” Each whisky was aged in a combination of American and European oak casks but have different accents. As the name suggests, Smooth Arabica brings a creamy, silky character to Macallans malt, retaining the dark spice and heavy fruit we've come to expect. For over 150 years, the Dalmore has set the standard in multi cask maturation. Hand selected casks, from the world's finest bodegas and wineries are expertly curated to create a sumptuous and layered whisky of legendary finesse. The 2023 release of The Dalmore 21 Year Old was initially matured in American oak casks and finished in first-fill Matusalem oloroso sherry butts. The casks used to finish this exceptional dram were specially selected by Dalmore’s Richard Paterson. They rested for decades at González Byass in Jerez, where they were used to mature 30-year-old Matusalem Olorosso Sherry, before making the long journey to the Scottish Highlands. This is not the easiest way to source a whisky cask, but the extra effort makes perfect sense when the Dalmore 21 Year Old hits your glass. Seville oranges, bitter chocolate and Colombian coffee tantalise on the nose, while sweet liquorice, black forest fruits and roasted walnuts delight the palate, finishing with notes of peaches, ginseng and pear tarte tatin.

Glenglassaugh is produced using the highest quality of Scottish barley and traditional distilling methods, their key focus being on quality. These elegant old whiskies offer a lush, ripe Highland single malt Scotch whisky experience, evoking notes of tropical fruit and the sea, while each cask type offers a unique taste influence. A nose of roasted orchard fruits, fresh vanilla pods and gentle cinnamon and ginger notes. The palate is of pears poached in five spice with hazelnuts and dry cedar.
