At Mt Bera, at an attractive homestead built in the 1880s, in Adelaide Hills, Greg and Katrina Horner have planted a diverse range of varieties, and their vineyards are managed according to organic/biodynamic principles. This 2017, nicely mature Adelaide Hills Cabernet, is called Wild & Free but more for the biodynamic approach to the vineyard management rather than wine style.

This wine has a deep, brick-red hue colour. On the palate, it is a classic Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit flavours are a combination of mulberry, cassis and dark plum, with background notes of dark chocolate and tar. The structure is firm, with bright acidity and long, round tannins, that provide good concentration and texture.

Selected Cabernet Sauvignon from premium vineyards throughout Langhorne Creek was vinified using a combination of fermentation styles and French oak to build complexity and structure. The wine has lifted aromas of chocolate and dark cherries, with a richly flavoured palate of spicy ripe plum that finishes with smooth tannins. With superb length, it drinks beautifully now and will reward patient cellaring. Like many of Australia's renowned wine regions, Langhorne Creek in South Australia was founded by people who had: 'The vision to see what could be and the passion to make it happen'. Located in High Eden, a sub-region of the Barossa, approximately 550 metres above sea level, Mountadam was originally established in 1972 by the late David Wynn for his winemaking son Adam. Since 2005, it has returned to being a family owned and run winery, with David and Jenni Brown overseeing its success. The wine is named after David’s father, Milton Brown. Traditionally known as the best Cabernet or Cabernet blend from the Estate the 2021 vintage saw this wine as a straight Cabernet Sauvignon due to the high quality of a single block. “Deep crimson and packed with bramble-edged blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry fruits. Hints of brown spice, violets, briar, licorice, cedar, sage and vanilla bean. There's a lovely density with great tension between that High Eden mineral line and the ripe black fruits with fine, granite-dust tannins... that fruit weight is impressive. 95pts. Bright plum in colour, Penfolds Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon displays delicate notes of mint and blackcurrant, with a more savory bouquet of semi-dried tomatoes and fruit chutney at the end. A hint of oak and spice adds extra warmth. On the palate a flavour-wheel of spearmint, milo powder, chocolate and black liquorice.

A beautiful drinking wine from Langhorne Creek considered one of South Autralia's best Cabernet Sauvignon regions. Ripe berry and chocolate flavours make it a choice worth indulging in.

The complex palate reveals itself with style. Traditionally assertive Coonawarra tannins are evident at first, before giving way to a mid palate filled with ripe cassis, olive tapenade and complex briary hints. Fine, dusty tannins give excellent line and length, and are layered with sweet and toasty characters reminiscent of crýme brýlýe. Our unique Double Barrel technique of finishing in aged Irish whiskey barrels has integrated the myriad of flavours and brought extra richness to the palate.
