It has an enticing ruby colour with aromas of raspberry, black cherry and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine has a velvety texture with a nice balance of bright and dark fruits leading to a refreshing finish. There are also subtle notes of toasty oak, allspice, and mocha.

Chardonnays are whole-cluster pressed and fermented and aged in French oak on the lees with bi-monthly battonage to add texture and complexity. The Pinot Noirs are cold soaked for five to eight days before fermentation in small, open-top fermenters and aged in a combination of new and used French oak barrels. As with the Chardonnay, La Crema's Pinot Noirs are pure, accurate and reflective of their origin. Mt Difficulty is one of Central Otago's oldest and most prestigious vineyards. Having tamed the rugged region since 1992, Mt Difficulty produce wines of utmost character and charm. Their Roaring Meg Pinot Noir shows lovely perfumed blackberry and dark cherry fruits along with a hint of spice. On the palate the wine has a sweet berry character along with balanced, ripe textural tannins that rise gracefully out of the mid-palate to finish the wine.

It bursts with bright red-currant and cherry fruit, cinnamon, cloves, cracked pepper and drying violets with a savory earthy undertone. The palate is plush but neatly packaged with savory, focused tannins and crunchy berry fruit. The spicy French oak does show on both the nose and the palate but it adds rather than detracts. Drink this young and slightly chilled as a light alternative to charred barbecue fare.
