The blend of the 2007 vintage consists of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, featuring an impressive 91% Grands Crus and 9% Premiers Crus. The Lignier family have deep roots in the village of Morey Saint Denis and own 10.5 hectares of some of the very best vineyard sites in this village, and also in the 2 neighbouring villages Chambolle Musigny and Gevrey Chambertin. Virgile’s father and grand-father had always produced wine and sold it to negotiants until Virgile started working with his father in the early 1990’s and he decided to sell the wines himself. Now with almost 20 vintages of experience Virgile has moved the domaine to fully organic viticulture and is producing what many believe to be the best wines of this prestigious village. The 2020 is a blend of 3 vineyards totaling around 1.5ha with old vines planted 1946, 1948, 1950 and 1980 which lie in Tres Girard, Les Cognees and Bas Chenevery. 95% whole bunches were utilised in 2020 to reign in some of the generous fruit and add some structure and complexity. It worked a treat. Great depth with abundant red and black fruit and aromatic intensity. Impeccable balance. This is about as good as Morey Villages get - and could easily stand shoulder to shoulder with 1er crus from other producers.

Jean-Louis Trapet is an articulate man, at peace in a world where "men are mere mortals, and since wine is all about sharing and transmission, his great-great-grandfather's legacy, founded in 1870, has been kept alive. Today he takes care of 15 hectares of vineyard, among the best-located in Gevrey. He is merely the custodian of this treasure: three grands crus (Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin), two premiers crus (Petite Chapelle and Clos Prieur), Marsannay and Bourgogne. Since 1995 the entire domain uses biodynamics: free of any harsh practices in the vineyard as well as in the cellars, which respects the natural balance of the wine. This approach is above all based on observation: to protect the vines while monitoring their growth and development. Maturating is a decisive stage at the Trapet domain: once the vinification is finished (with minimum intervention), the wines are taken down to the cellar and put in barrels to mature slowly over the winter months at their own speed. The Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea from Trapet comes from four parcels, one of which has the oldest vines in the domain, each chosen for their terroir's characteristics. This blend has a unique geological and climatic identity which produces a dense wine.
