Domaine Gérard Courbis is based in the village of Mauves, close to the boundary with Cornas. The family estate is run by brothers, Ludovic and Emmanuel. The wines are made very much in a traditional and elegant style of Northern Rhône to reflect both freshness and perfume, while retaining a lovely savory edge.Vibrant and spicy, this delicate wine offers mouthwatering blackberry and currant flavors nuanced by earthen shades of forest floor, mushroom and game. Its a complex yet juicy, punchy wine with sharp but fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and tinges of bitter chocolate and coffee extend a long, precise finish. 100% Syrah. Dark fruits and licorice intermingled with forest undergrowth notes precede a long lasting, fine tannin Rosemary flavoured finish. The medium weight but firm structure and vibrancy of this wine ensure it has many possible food matches.

This is great cool-climate shiraz, known foremost for their high quality Riesling, Skillogalee are capable of producing reds of distinction and class. The 2004 Shiraz from Dan's Cellar Release is one of their best. Drinking beautifully now, it will continue to evolve over the next 6 years or so.

Strikingly vivid in colour with deep purple and magenta. There are energetic aromatics showing fresh, pure expression of fruit. Aromas of violets, dark rose, sweet plum, spice, licorice and fruitcake emanate from the glass. The palate is bursting with rich and bright dark fruit flavours. Well structured, with natural tannins providing a muscular framework the wine is full in body, flavour and mouth feel. A touch of creaminess leads to a lengthy finish completing this resplendent wine. Parker Estate Terra Rossa Shiraz is a little gem from Coonawarra. Generously rich with ripe dark forest berries complimented by mocha, cassis and a hints of spicy oak.

The Cliff Edge Shiraz by Mount Langi Ghiran is now reaping the rewards of vine age. Generally a younger vine Shiraz as compared to the Langi Shiraz, these vines are now starting to come into their own. Attractive spearmint and blackberry flavours are complimented by exceptional balance of acid and oak. A great Grampians bargain.

Nitschke Block Shiraz displays rich, opulent fruit with a fantastic balance of texture. Lifted notes of greengage plums are first to emerge from what is a tightly-wound wine. There is also a warming spice element of subtle white pepper as well as some dark cherry and plum flavours.

A beautiful Syrah from the Northern Rhone Valley, full of intense black fruits, savoury flavours and elegant tannins. Best paired with cold cuts, local sausages or a cheese plate.
