Being a cellarhand however (or a ‘barrel monkey’ as they are fondly called) is very hard work! Scrambling over barrels, dragging heavy hoses around, cleaning out two tonne fermenters – it’s not for the faint-hearted! And neither is this wine, named in honour of these hard workers. It’s a BIG full-flavoured red that will definitely impress.No monkeying around... this is a BIG McLaren Vale Shiraz that you will love.

Leogate Western Slopes Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz

Leogate Estate was established in 2009 by Bill and Vicki Widin, however, their vines are much older. The winery has maintained a 5 Red Star rating for well over a decade now, and their Western Slope has rarely fallen below 95pts in that same period, such is the impressive consistency of this Reserve Shiraz. The 2017 vintage presented a smaller yield vintage for Hunter reds, which means concentration of flavour has been high. This is well deserving of a place in your cellar. “It puts on a classy display based on a core of cherry-plum flavour though it's also appropriately adorned in smoky, cedary oak. Earth and spice notes strut throughout and the texture is silken. It doesn't put a foot wrong, and it's impressive... 95pts” (Halliday Wine Companion, Campbell Mattinson).

Pikes "Los Companeros" Clare Valley Shiraz Tempranillo

Rich and ripe, blueberry and chocolate flavours, tempered by savoury tannins and well balanced acidity. Pikes Wines is a beautiful location at Polish Hill River, near Sevenhill in the wonderful Clare Valley. With a history dating back to 1878, the Pike family has a past rooted in winemaking. Current custodians, Neil & Andrew form a formidable partnership creating wines that express terroir magnificently. Neil Pike grew up amongst his father, Edgars vineyards in Langhorne Creek and Padthaway . After doing a vintage in 1978 at Wynns Coonawarra he decided to study wine production and marketing at Roseworthy College. After he graduated in 1981, Neil worked as a winemaker making wine for several Clare Valley wineries before starting Pikes with brother Andrew in 1984. He has now completed 38 vintages in the Clare Valley. Andrew was introduced to the wine industry through his father Edgars vineyards in Langhorne Creek and Padthaway. Andrew attended Roseworthy Agricultural College, graduating in 1976 with a Diploma in Agriculture, and immediately joined Wynns Coonawarra Estate. After almost 4 years at Coonawarra, he joined Penfolds Wines in 1979 where he established a new vineyard project in the Clare Valley. The seeds for Pikes Wines were immediately sown, as he quickly realised Clares potential. Andrew become General Manger Vineyard Operations for the Southcorp Wine Group where he was responsible for over 6000 ha of corporate vineyard and all grape supply on a global basis. During this time he was also involved in the establishment of Pikes Wines in the Polish Hill River Valley sub region of Clare. In 1998 Andrew resigned his position at Southcorp to assist his brother Neil in the running of the Pikes family business.

Deep River McLaren Vale Shiraz

Blue Pyrenees Estate Section One Shiraz

Section One is made from the oldest Shiraz vines, known as Section One or block one of the Estate Vineyard, and the fruit produces stunning wines like this 2017 Shiraz.Deep red. Blueberry, raspberry, bay leaf and cedar oak. Medium to full-bodied with a juicy array of juicy red, black and blue fruit, well-integrated deluxe oak and spicy tannin harmony on the long, dry finish. Quite powerful yet with elegance and class.
