Jim Brand was a deeply passionate Coonawarra winemaker and vigneron who was born into the third generation of an Australian winemaking dynasty. Today, the family continue Jim’s legacy by crafting premium Coonawarra wines which reflect Jim Brand's drive, passion and endless pursuit for quality. The striking 93pt Yates Chardonnay is the perfect example of well known Cabernet regions, like Coonawarra, being home to equally impressive Chardonnay. A perfumed nose combines peach and stone fruit aromas with creamy buttery and vanillin oak characters. The palate is complex, smooth and rounded with a balanced acid structure. It displays strong peach and nectarine accompanied by creamy cashew nuts from barrel fermentation and maturation. Lingering fruit flavours last well after the last sip. Displays classic Chardonnay characters of white peach, nectarine and fresh figs. The palate is fresh and vibrant with fruit flavours of citrus and white peach. Maturation in French oak provides subtle nutmeg and clove characters on the palate, while a clean slatey acid backbone provides length and structure to the wine. The wine is complex with no single character dominating the wine. The flavour of the wine persists long after it has left the mouth.

An excellent food wine, it matches well with just about any foods you might match a dry white wine to, but fresh white seafood dishes (white fish, squid, prawns & crabs) are perhaps the best accompaniment to this wine.

Founded in 1950 by Monsieur Bertagna, this fine domaine has gained an envious reputation. It lies in Vougeot and boasts 17 hectares of vines across a myriad of appellations, making 18 different wines, including eight Premiers Crus and six Grands Crus. In 1982, it was sold to Joseph Reh, whose family have been making wine in Germany's Rheinhessen for seven generations. Joseph had long had a love of Burgundy, buying them for his customers in Germany. He finally succumbed to his passion and bought this lovely property. His grand daughter, Eva, is now in charge. She has brought in organic practices and a gentle hand in the winemaking. Handpicked grapes, fermentation and part ageing in French oak lend the wine richness and finesse. A fine white.
