Riposte by Tim Knappstein The Scimitar Riesling 2024 (Clare Valley) showcases the region’s signature Riesling style, crafted by third-generation winemaker Tim Knappstein. Sourced from a prized vineyard east of Watervale, this wine highlights exotic lime fruit, lily blossom, and heady floral aromas, with a palate marked by deep lime core, spicy acidity, and a chalky, fairy dust-like finish.

Taking its name from the Capuchin friars who arrived in 1619, the Clos is protected from winds by the surrounding hills and by the walls enclosing it. The soils here consist of sand, alluvial pebbles and granitic gravel and this produces a Riesling as zippy, zesty and mineral-driven as it is fleshy. White peach, green and yellow citrus along with melon, kaffir lime and lemongrass notes. Lovely texture and a vibrant, fresh finish.

An off-dry lower alcohol style, Felton Roads Bannockburn Riesling displays floral lift and fleshy stone fruit richness balanced by taut racy acidity. The fruit comes from Calvert & The Elms vineyards in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago. The grapes are whole bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts, with the ferment arrested when the desired balance between acidity, alcohol and residual sugar is reached.
